I had never been more annoyed with anyone in my life. Ever. I hated Matthew Green. I hated him. I could not stand the dude, but here he was. In my doorway. In the doorway to my damn house. How did he get my address? I have no idea and that will remain a mystery because no way am I letting him in to have a friendly conversation about the weather.
“What the hell do you want Matthew? It’s almost midnight.” I asked him tiredly. Of course I was in my pajamas, my favorite thing to do is sleep.
He looked me up and down disapprovingly, “Geez, you are a mess.”
“Yeah, well, I don’t intend to look all dazzling and princess-like when I’m sleeping.” I said sarcastically through a yawn, you could tell I was only half awake.
“It looks like a bird made a nest in your hair.” Matthew stated, touching a frizzy part of my hair.
I scoffed, “Take a look in the mirror, bud. Now what do you want?”
“Stella! Who’s at the door?” My mother yelled from up the stairs.
I sighed in frustration, “No one mom! I’ll be just a minute!”
Next thing I knew, I was pushing him out the door to my front porch in the night. I shut the door behind us so my mom wouldn’t snoop or yell at me for talking to a boy. I had already gotten the 30 minute long lecture about how skipping school is bad and that we need to learn, yada yada yada.
“This better be quick.” I told him, wrapping my arms around myself in an attempt to keep warm in the cold chilly air of the night.
“It will be.” Matthew said, leaning against the wall of my house.
“Well then what is it?” I asked, losing patience with this guy. How was I supposed to tolerate him again?
“Who is that asshole you were being all flirty with this afternoon?” He asked, getting straight to the point. His eyes darkened at the subject.
“Oh you mean this afternoon? After you decided to follow me?” I said, crossing my arms.
He scoffed and looked away from me, “I did not follow you.”
“Adrian is always at the skatepark, you’re never there. Except for today, which is highly suspicious.” I told him, a smirk on my face. I was beginning to wake up from my previous half-asleep mind.
“I did not follow you.” Matthew said once again, avoiding eye contact, “Do you like this Adrian?”
I was taken aback by his question, never would I have ever thought that Matthew Green would be wondering if I liked a guy, let alone even care. “What?”
“I mean you were both acting like you were in kindergarten and being all love touchy stuff. Ugh, it was disgusting to watch, just make a move already, he’s obviously obsessed with you.” Matthew said bluntly, playing with his hoodie strings.
“Why do you care? I’ll make a move when I want to.” I told him, shrugging my shoulders as if I wasn’t completely intrigued on why he cared.
“So you do like him.” He nodded.
“No!” I lied, “Plus, what’s it to you?”
He stepped closer to me, “I’m adding a rule. No other love interests. What do you think Adrian is going to do when he finds out we’re dating? You think he’ll be happy for you?”
“Okay first, it's fake dating, second, can’t I just tell him it’s fake?” I said, trying to think of the possible outcomes.
“It’s still me, and you know how your little friend feels about me. Don’t you think he’ll be disappointed you stooped this low for money?” Matthew said, speaking slower.
