The school day ended, and I was in the diner as usual. My apron was all cleaned up after I had spent hours in the morning trying to scrub the mud out. I had gotten a lecture from my boss about how we should never leave without clocking out, and things like that. I didn't really care, he had no idea what had happened, only I did.
I was waiting tables quickly, the place was busy on Friday nights. People filled up seats all throughout the diner, it sounded like a school cafeteria. I was busy taking this old man's order, which was incredibly odd, though it's normal at a restaurant. My head was aching from all of the work. Just like every other day, I was looking forward to just being in my wonderful bed.
"Okay, extra cheese on the eggs?" I asked the sweet old man.
He nodded, "Yes, and make sure the milkshake has a whole bottle of chocolate syrup in it."
I smiled, "That will be an extra five dollars or so, is that okay?"
The man smiled a toothy smile, "Anything for chocolate!"
"Alright sir, I will be back with your order soon." I told him nicely, walking away from his table.
He smiled in response before grabbing a ketchup bottle. The man looked at it in curiosity, squinting his eyes to read the ingredients. I chuckled to myself, I loved old people, they were so fun to be around. Going into the kitchen to place the old man's order on the counter, the bell to the front door rang. I turned around to face the people to see who it was.
It was none other than Matthew Green and Barry Maxfield.
"Great." I murmured to myself.
I shoved the order down onto a counter and stomped over to the two annoying boys. Matthew's eyes met mine, and he smirked. The smirk was an evil smirk. This dude came here on purpose, I just knew it. But how did he know I worked here? I swear he is a stalker.
"You are so obsessed with me, coming to my work as well?" I said to Matthew when I reached him and his friend.
He smiled, shrugging his shoulders, "What can I say? I wanted to see you."
I had to resist the urge to sass him and possibly send him home in bandages. But, I couldn't do that. I had to act like me, Stella O'brien, was obsessed with Matthew Green. I was "dating" him, wasn't I, I couldn't hate him. I had to love him. I had to act in love with him to make it look real, even if I completely didn't like him at all.
"Look at the two love birds getting along!" Barry commented from the side, catching my attention. I looked over to the boy, whose brown hair was messily above his eyes. He wore his usual football jersey with a black long-sleeved shirt underneath. His pants were basic black basketball shorts and he had a larger silver chain on than Matthew, dangling from his neck.
Matthew rolled his eyes in response to Barry's snarky comment, "Barry here was complaining about his stomach growling after his date wouldn't let him eat anything but salad.""Seriously though, who forces their date to eat salad on the first date? Damn cheerleaders." Barry complained, patting his stomach.
I smiled at the two, grabbing a couple of menus, "Yup, well, perhaps a burger will fill you up."
"That sounds heavenly." Barry stated dramatically.
"This way then." I told them both, walking towards an empty two person booth.
They sat down in the seats across from each other as I placed the menus down. Barry snatched the piece of plastic up and opened it, looking for something to eat. Matthew looked at me, waiting for me to speak.
"What would you two like to drink?" I turned to Matthew, "and no, we don't sell alcoholic beverages to underage customers."
Matthew scoffed, "I was just going to ask for water, judgemental much?"
