Blissful drops of water on his lips. Bless, whoever gave him water. It felt like the greatest luxury in the world.

The brightness had gone, the ringing had gone. Even the pain had become a dull throbbing in his head.

Arnav opened his eyes. The bright light hurt, but it wasn't as bad as before - he could keep his eyes open, and make out an oval shape hovering above him.

"Chotay?"

The oval condensed into blocks of color. Dark and light. Hair and face. Eyes, mouth, eyebrows.

"Di...?" he croaked.

"Chotay!"

There was a flurry, sobbing, voices. Pain - she had grabbed him, relief - she had let go.

"Di?"

He opened his eyes again. Di looked–horrible. Puffy eyes, swollen face.

"Di... why are you–where am I?"

He let her weep. He was too tired. Which was funny, because he hadn't–wait. What had happened?

"You're in the hospital, Chotay," Di said, still sobbing. But she was smiling too. It was okay, she was smiling. Everything was okay.

"Di, are you okay? What happened? Is the baby–"

"Yes, Chotay," she said, wiping away tears. "Of course I am okay. The baby is okay." She sobbed some more. "You're–you–you got hurt, Chotay. You've been in hospital."

He frowned. It hurt to frown. "I got hurt?"

It began to come back.

"Di!" He tried to sit up, and found he couldn't. "There was a man! Someone hit me on the head!"

"Bhai, please rest," Akash's voice floated over to him. "We can talk about it later. Don't get worked up. It's all okay now. You're okay."

Arnav sank back into bed, taking a deep breath. He was fine now... no, wait–

"Where's Khushi?"

"She's gone home, Bhai. She'll be back. Please rest. She's fine too."

"Sh–she's gone home?"

"Yes. To rest and change. She'll be back. She is fine, Bhai. I'd call her, but she will be back anyway, so there's no point. Please get some rest."

Di placed a cool hand on his forehead. "Khushi-ji is fine, Chotay. Don't worry about her."

"But–when– how long have I been here?"

"Bhai... it's been two w–"

"Let him rest, Akash," Di cut in. "Please go back to sleep, Chotay. Do you want something? More water?"

He shook his head feebly. Someone had attacked him. He had lost consciousness. Khushi was not here. No, she was here, but she had gone home to rest and change. How long had he been here? And, which home had she gone to? Shantivan, or Laxmi Nagar?
