It had fully started out as a research for criminal justice, an extra credit assignment pushed the start of the letters. He wasn't supposed to actually answer back, but when Carter Hansen sent a letter in return that was when everything changed.

Carter was a notorious serial killer and cannibal, he had been caught alongside his family years back, but Carter was only 24 and if Asher was being honest he was oh so handsome.

He wasn't supposed to be enamored with him, he was supposed to be nothing more than an assignment and something to study.

He kept replying, sending letters, getting to know him better. Asher knew after about the third letter he was sharing too much, but Carter was someone to confide in, he was never getting out of prison. He was sentenced to death by electric chair within the next few weeks.

Carter was sharing so much with him, telling him everything about how he was raised, how it felt to kill. If he felt sorry for what he had done, which from the way he described it the answer was clear, he was still as bloodthirsty as he had been the day he was caught.

Asher was in the middle of criminal justice when the news broke, Carter Hansen and his sister Alex Hansen had escaped. They were on the run.

Asher was horrified, Carter had said something in his last letter that sent shivers down his spine.

I'd like to meet you, can't wait really. If you don't visit me, I'd love to visit you.

Asher hadn't even gotten a chance to reply, he hadn't known what to say to that. He had fallen for Carter in a way, he was very human, very open. They had shared secrets, Carter knew things about him no one else knew. That was because he was supposed to have died within the next month.

Now he wasn't sure how to feel about any of this.

He had wanted to meet Carter, but it was partly to learn about what made him tick, he had said things maybe too much in his letters. Agreed to things, said things he shouldn't have, not if the man was supposed to get out.

Asher was tapping his foot, watching the clock, Carter knew what his schedule was. He had told him everything, told him where he lived, where he worked, where he went to school. He had been reckless.

He wasn't sure what to do, he didn't know if he was supposed to call the police or hope that Carter wasn't actually going to show up. He was shaking by the time the class ended. He got up slowly and walked to his professor. "Sir, I-."

Before he could get up to his teacher one of his classmates pushed him out of the way, started asking about an assignment and he realized this was going to have to be something he dealt with on his own.

He had been the one to mess up, he had been the one to make mistakes, he shouldn't have told this killer all the things he did. He poured out his soul, told him all the things that made him weak, all the things he liked. He should have never said anything to him, he should have never taken up the opportunity to talk to him.

Asher headed across campus towards the bakery that he worked at, he didn't know why but he felt it was the best place to go. He walked fast, keeping his head down. He was just about to wrap his fingers around the handle of the door when he heard his name being called.

He turned quickly, and there standing between two trees hidden in the shadows was Carter, his sister not far behind him, watching their surroundings. Asher froze, his heart began to beat quickly.
