Elena broke the silence, looking between the three brothers. "You don't believe her, do you?" she asked, her voice laced with skepticism, referring to Katherine.

Damon shrugged, crossing his arms. "No, of course not. We just want the moonstone."

Stefan added, "According to Rose's friend Slater, there's a way to destroy the spell Klaus wants to break."

Damon leaned in with a smirk. "No spell, no doppelgänger sacrifice. Ergo, you live."

Elena frowned, arms crossed. "How do you destroy it?"

Stefan's expression grew serious. "By releasing it from the moonstone."

Kara raised an eyebrow, breaking her silence. "Destroying a spell on something as old as the moonstone isn't exactly foolproof. You're putting a lot of faith in theory here."

Damon gave her a look. "It's the best plan we have. Besides, we've got a crafty witch on our side." He turned back to Elena. "We discussed it with Bonnie; she agreed to help."

Elena's gaze shifted from Kara to the brothers. "But Katherine has the moonstone. She's not just going to give it to you."

Stefan's mouth tightened. "We're going to get it from her."

Damon chimed in, his tone flippant but his eyes cold. "What he means to say is, we'll pry it from her cold, dead hand if we have to."

Elena looked away, letting the reality sink in. "So, you already have this all planned out?" Her voice was tinged with disbelief.

Damon nodded with a smug smile. "Yep. We're awesome."

Elena shook her head, suddenly resolute. "Except for one thing. I don't want you to do it."

Stefan and Damon exchanged a confused glance, their faces creased with worry.

"What are you talking about?" Stefan asked, concern heavy in his voice. "Elena, we don't have a choice."

Elena looked between them, her expression pained. "What about Klaus?"

Stefan attempted a reassuring tone. "We'll find him right after we get the moonstone."

Elena's eyes darkened as she pointed between them, her voice quivering slightly. "Is that before or after he kills everyone I care about—including the three of you?"

The intensity of her words made Damon falter for a moment, the weight of her concern momentarily catching him off-guard.

Stefan stepped forward, his voice soft but determined. "Elena, if we can break the spell on the moonstone, we can save your life."

Elena sighed, pulling back, her voice almost a whisper. "I know. Everyone keeps saying that." Without another word, she turned and left the room.

Kara watched her go, her brow furrowing with an unreadable expression. Damon shot her a sidelong look, smirking slightly.

"What's the matter?" he teased. "Feeling sentimental?"

Kara scoffed, masking her concern. "Hardly. Just wondering how long it'll be before you two get yourselves killed." She crossed her arms, the faintest trace of worry lingering in her gaze as she looked after Elena. "You're putting an awful lot of faith in a theory here, you know. If even half the legends about Klaus are true, he's already ten steps ahead."

Damon scoffed, crossing his arms. "So, what are you suggesting? That we just let Elena march off to her doom?"

Kara's gaze flickered in frustration. "No, Damon. I'm saying you need a better plan than 'wing it and hope for the best.' Klaus is... different. You don't survive for a thousand years by making careless mistakes."
