Lucian led Leila to a quieter part of town, where he questioned her with mild skepticism and curiosity. As she explained her world and how she wound up here, Lucian listened carefully, though a slight smile played at the corner of his lips as if amused by her tale.

Leila, frustrated by his skepticism, muttered, “Look, I didn’t choose to end up here.”

At that, Lucian’s expression softened slightly. “It’s rare to meet anyone who… doesn’t belong,” he admitted. He seemed to sense her vulnerability, and after a beat, he offered, “You’re clearly lost. Until you figure things out, stay close. I can help you learn our customs and… survive.”

Surprised yet relieved, Leila accepted. The days that followed were filled with Lucian guiding her through everything—currency, language, even the history of his world. Their dynamic was marked by sharp banter and misunderstandings, but each exchange gradually built trust between them. Though, at times, she noticed Lucian’s intense gaze, as if he held secrets he wasn’t ready to share.

Their friendship grew, a fragile balance between two people from worlds apart, each secretly curious and guarded. Leila found herself feeling safer with him, but in the back of her mind, she couldn’t shake the sense that this connection, however comforting, could also lead her somewhere dangerous.
