The following week dawned bright and bustling at Fukuoka High School, with students chatting and laughing as they gathered in groups. Koga and Haruka were at their usual spot near the entrance, sharing stories from their weekend escapades. Just as they were caught up in laughter, a new figure caught Koga's eye.
"Who's that?" she whispered, nodding toward the entrance where a boy stood, scanning the crowd. He had tousled hair with striking blue streaks running through it, reminiscent of Yugo's style but with a flair all his own. He wore a casual outfit, yet there was an undeniable confidence in his stance.
Haruka followed Koga's gaze, her eyebrows raising in curiosity. "I don't know, but he looks familiar. He kind of resembles Yugo, doesn't he?"
As if hearing their conversation, the boy turned and approached them with an easy grin. "Hey! I'm Katsumi Bando! Just transferred here."
Koga's eyes widened with interest. "Katsumi? That's a cool name! Are you into sports or something? You look like you could be a fighter!"
"Yeah, I used to do martial arts, specifically the 'One Punch Gatling Dragon' style," Katsumi replied, flexing a playful muscle. "But I'm also a huge fan of video games. Just trying to keep things balanced."
Haruka couldn't help but smile at his enthusiasm. "That's awesome! We were just talking about games last night. What's your favourite?"
"Definitely fighting games! They remind me of training, plus they're just plain fun," Katsumi said, his blue-streaked hair catching the light as he gestured animatedly. "What about you two?"
Koga exchanged a glance with Haruka, both feeling a spark of camaraderie with the new boy. "We just went to the arcade! Racing games are our jam," Koga chimed in. "You should join us next time!"
"Absolutely! I'm in!" Katsumi replied, his excitement infectious. "I could use some new friends around here. This place is a bit overwhelming."
Haruka nodded, feeling a connection form. "It can be, but we've got your back. We'll show you the best spots."
As they chatted, Katsumi's energy reminded Koga of Yugo, but there was something unique about him that drew her in. Maybe it was his lighthearted demeanour or the way he made even mundane topics sound thrilling.
"So, what's your story?" Koga asked, intrigued. "What made you move here?"
"Just wanted a change of scenery, I guess. Plus, I heard Fukuoka High has a killer atmosphere," Katsumi explained, his grin widening. "And I wanted to make a name for myself. I'm ready for a fresh start!"
"Then you're in the right place," Haruka said encouragingly. "This school is all about friendships and adventures."
As the three of them continued to bond over shared interests, Koga felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. Katsumi was an intriguing addition to their circle, and she couldn't shake the feeling that his presence might lead to unexpected twists in their group dynamics.
Before long, the bell rang, signalling the start of the first period. "Guess we should get to class," Katsumi said, looking between the girls. "But I'll catch up with you guys later, right?"
"Definitely!" Koga replied, her enthusiasm shining through.
As they parted ways, Koga felt a sense of anticipation building within her. Katsumi was a breath of fresh air, and she could only wonder what kind of adventures lay ahead with him in the mix. With new friendships blossoming and potential challenges on the horizon, the story was just beginning to unfold.
Monday morning arrived with a familiar buzz as Yugo strolled onto the school grounds, his backpack slung casually over one shoulder. The sun shone brightly, illuminating the bustling atmosphere of Fukuoka High School. After a relaxing weekend spent with Izumi and her sisters, he felt energized and ready to tackle the week ahead.
