the afternoon sun hung low in the sky, casting warm rays through the windows of the local community center. it was a cozy space, filled with laughter and chatter as kids played games and adults mingled in small groups.
the center had organized a volunteer day, encouraging students from various schools to come together and help out. woonhak and riwoo, surprisingly paired together, found themselves standing in front of a large table covered in craft supplies, a shared assignment looming over them.
"i can't believe we're actually doing this," riwoo grumbled, his arms crossed tightly. he couldn't help but feel a mix of frustration and disbelief.
the two of them had been thrown together because of a random draw, and he had half a mind to complain about it.
"look on the bright side," woonhak said with his signature grin. "we get to help people, and it'll be fun! besides, it's just a couple of hours. how bad can it be?"
riwoo shot him a skeptical look but felt a small tug of amusement at woonhak's enthusiasm. it was hard to stay annoyed when woonhak was in such high spirits.
"i guess so, but that doesn't mean i have to like it."
"you're going to like it," woonhak insisted, his charm disarming riwoo in a way he hadn't expected. "just think of all the kids we'll be helping! we can make some awesome crafts."
"fine," riwoo relented, trying to sound indifferent, but the corners of his mouth betrayed him, threatening to turn into a smile. he sighed dramatically, rolling his eyes. "let's get this over with, then."
as they settled in at the table, the atmosphere shifted from one of reluctance to a strange camaraderie. woonhak grabbed some colored paper and scissors, glancing over at riwoo with an inviting grin.
"how about we make some cards for the kids? something bright and fun?"
"cards?" riwoo echoed, a hint of disbelief in his tone. "what, like greeting cards?"
"sure! we can decorate them with drawings and stickers. kids love that kind of stuff!" woonhak replied enthusiastically, diving into the supplies.
riwoo hesitated but eventually joined in, feeling a curious excitement stir within him. he had always enjoyed art, but he rarely shared it with others.
"i suppose it could be fun," he admitted, a hint of a smile creeping onto his face.
