I'm starting to hate the existence of the book I've been wanting to get through. A popular novel, now taken into a movie adaptation ready to be released any time.
After pouring my heart and mind, it echoes the name of those people I've left behind. After years of trying to get it done. Even if it ended tragically just how it reflects the life I had, and shows the beauty of pain and suffering. My pain. My loss. I now find this book with pure resentment, and hatred.
After staring at my book for a few minutes, I took a heavy sigh. Sage's words from last week came to mind.
I will never leave unless you tell me everything. Things that make some fucking sense. And if you were finally honest to me. If I get the whole damn truth. I will do what you want me to do.
Even if it means leaving you.
I tossed the book on the couch and took a shower to prepare myself for work.
The hot water cascading down my skin helped ease me a little. After getting ready and drying yourself off, I went to pick out an outfit for work.
With a book clutched in one hand and a bag slung over my shoulder, I stood in front of the publishing building, taking in the sight of the modern edifice and the letters that indicated the name of the company.
Bookscapes
I stepped into the building and spotted Garry with a laptop in hand. I approached him when he gestured me to come over.
"Tawag ka ni boss"
Hindi na ako dumiretso sa sarili kong office. I walked straightly ahead on our editor-in-chief's office where he was waiting for me while in a call with someone.
"Listen, I need the revised chapters and the final edits of the manuscript by next week. No exceptions. May tight deadline tayo and the marketing team is already working on promotion ideas"
Mr. Atole spoke with a cool authoritative tone. I stood there as he signaled me to hold his palm and waited for him to end the call.
Mr. Atole was the editor-in-chief of Bookscapes, a publishing company known for its diverse portfolio of works. He held the overall responsibility for the editorial direction and content standards of the publishing house.
"Please take a seat, Raine."
I have been working for him for a year now. When I first emailed him my novel. He told me he saw my potential and even took me under his wing. And after considerations of publishing another two books, which also became a success and the most read novels of mine. Now adapted into a movie.
"The movie is not yet released but I can sense its success."
Mr. Atole had an athletic build, standing a few inches over average height. He had a clean-shaven face, except for a well-groomed mustache, and his hair showed a hint of gray. He usually dressed in tailored suits, which heightened his authoritative presence.
Mukha daw siyang sugar daddy sabi ni Garry.
"How are you?"
I nodded in anticipation of his real query.
"I'm fine. I'm good. It was nice working with Mr. Tanaka. He executed every scene very well."
He nodded, feeling prideful.
I shared some of my experiences having to collaborate and work with a production company. Mr. Atole, although silent, was listening thoughtfully.
"I am thrilled to report that there has been a remarkable 200% increase in the sales of your book, and there is also a significant boost in sales. I shall congratulate you for that."
