The next day, Chase once again had hope that he'd be able to catch Skye's attention. In the morning, they were sent on a rescue mission. This time on a mountain trail, where hikers had lost their way and needed help. The whole team was picked for this mission. It was risk of life so they had to find them asap. Chase and Skye worked side by side which made him unfocused. When they arrived at the mountains Skye took on the task of patrolling the area from the air while Chase searched the surroundings on the ground. When they finally found the lost hikers, Chase immediately approached Skye, looking for a moment to express his joy.
"You did great again. I always admire how well you observe everything from the air" he said with a gentle smile, trying to hide his growing feelings.
Skye returned the smile, which made Chase blush...but her response was once again impersonal, completely friendly...
"Thanks, Chase! But you know, without you and the rest of the team, we would never manage" she replied with her friendly smile.
Chase felt a pang in his heart. His words which were meant to be something more than just a compliment, were just another part of their daily interactions for Skye. He felt bad about it but he didn't give up. He believed that in some time her feelings would change.
