Months passed, and Chase's feelings for Skye only deepened. Every day he tried to be close to her, performing small gestures and showing her how much he cared. But Skye continued to treat him the same... As her best friend, a team member, someone she could always rely on. She didn't realize that for Chase, it all meant so much more.
During another mission, when they rescue kittens trapped on a roof and Humdinger from falling because of his stupid ideas, Chase focused again on Skye instead of mission. Watching her run, full of energy and determination, he knew his feelings were strong, but also hopeless. Every shared action, every smile from her only reminded him of how much she meant to him and how deeply she did not reciprocate his feelings.
For the first time this caused team serious problems. Chase wasn't paying attention and he didn't saw Humdinger falling from roof. He could catch him with his net, but he didn't notice him falling. Luckily or not Humdinger landed on Mr's Porter cake. He wasn't mad about it, just little bit sorry for his masterpiece. But Ryder was madly worried.
"What? Chase, the leader of the pawpatrol didn't pay attention? That's weird... and kinda interesting." Ryder thought to himself
After the mission, Ryder decided to speak with him more personally.
"Hey, buddy is everything alright?
That question surprised Chase.
"Hm? Yes...? Why?" Chase said with worried but concerned tone.
"I've noticed it a while ago, but I didn't want to step into your personal space if you know what I mean." Ryder pointed
"Noticed what?" Chase asked with serious tone.
"On missions, you use to leave us... somehow. Not physically, but I feel like even with you standing next to us, you aren't there.
Chase wondered if what he does is alright, this may affect the rescue, just like today.
"Oh... yeah, sometimes I was... thinking alot.
*Chase begged in his thoughts, that Ryder won't ask what is he thinking about.*
"Okay, but everything is good? You know you can tell me everything, I won't tell other pups if you won't agree." Ryder said in worried tone.
"Yeah Ryder, I'm okay, don't worry, it won't happen again, im sorry." Chase said
"Alright Chase ty for explaining, you can go now" Ryder sighed and Chase just smiled.
Minutes passed after his talk with Ryder and he couldn't stop thinking about... Skye and what happened today.
He decided to put all on one card, he wanted to tell Skye what he feels. Skye was playing soccer with others, when Chase found her.
Deep breath
"Skye!" He called her.
But she didn't react
"Skye!!" He tried again
This time she heard him
"Yes? What's up Chase? Wanna join us?"
"No, i actually want to talk."
That surprised everyone, and worried Skye
Usually he would do everything to spend time with Skye, even if its soccer, which he didn't like. But now he wanted to talk?
"Oh? Okay, sorry pups play without me, Imma be right back!" She said with cheerfull smile, and went towards Chase.
"Yes? What do u wanna talk about Chase?"
She noticed Chase being nervous, but he didn't give up.
"Skye... you know you're someone special to me," he began, hoping that perhaps this conversation would change something.
Skye looked at him with her typical friendly smile.
"Thanks, Chase! I'm glad we're such good friends" She replied with innocent sincerity.
That moment Chase felt sudden pain inside him.
"No, Skye, I mean... like... You... are..."
Skye interrupted him
"I know im good in my copter Chase.. you already told me that, don't you remember?"
It was at that moment that something inside Chase broke. He realized that no matter what he did, Skye would always see him only as a friend.
"Oh.. did I? I'm sorry" Chase said sadly.
Skye noticed that but she thought he's sad only because she already heard what he wanted to say and he feels ashamed.
"It's alright" She smiled "Wanna play with us?"
Chase felt like this talk took his entire energy, all he wanted to happen now, is to be left alone.
"No, Sorry.. I think I'll go for a walk." He said with fake smile
"Okay, have fun Chase" Skye said with gentle smile.
"Thanks... you too.."
