As he set his plate down, Chase took a deep breath and glanced over at Helga. “I think… I think I’ll go back." Chase said. It felt grounding and terrifying. “I’m still not sure how I’ll handle things with Skye, but… running away won’t solve anything. They deserve to know why... I was so distant.
Helga gave him a proud smile. “That’s the spirit. You know, admitting how you feel doesn’t make you weak. It makes you real. That’s something not everyone is brave enough to do.”
Chase managed a small smile, feeling some of the weight on his heart lift. “Thanks again, Helga. For everything. I won’t forget this.”
And he left.
After a quick goodbye, he looked at his pup tag back on, hesitating for a moment before pressing the call button to contact Ryder. Within seconds, Ryder’s voice came through, filled with relief and worry.
“Chase! What happened?! Where have you been? Are you okay? We’ve all been so worried! Skye and Marshall have been out looking entire night!” Ryder said, his tone a mixture of frustration and relief.
Chase’s voice was thick with emotion as he replied, “I’m sorry, Im fine I just…"
Ryder sensed Chase was feeling bad about what happened, and his voice was about to crack, so he interrupted him.
“Don't worry, Chase, it's okay. Please tell me where you are now.” Ryder said gently.
"I'm in Humdinger’s hidden base. I was just leaving, so I called you. I'm going to Adventure Bay now." Chase explained
"How did you get there? It's so... Stay where you are. I'm coming for you." Ryder said as if he was scared that something could happen to Chase. He didn't really believe Chase about him being fine. He often underestimates his state, claiming he's fine.
"Oh... okay, I'm right in front of their base. See you Ryder."
The call ended, and Chase just sat while listening to how the ocean made peaceful sounds. That calmed him down. Finally.
Few minutes later, he heard quad sound getting closer and closer every second.
It was Ryder. "But usually, from our base to Humdinger’s base, we drive from 15 to 20 mins, and he's there in 5 minutes." Chase thought. Ryder finally arrived and stopped his quad. While going off quad, Ryder already felt tears forming in his eyes. "Chase..." He said while running towards him. Chase felt guilty and bad about making Ryder cry. Ryder hugged him, and Chase hugged him back.
"I'm sorry Ryder."
Chase said again.
"Don't be sorry, it's alright Chase..."
Tears felt from Ryder eyes. And formed in Chase's eyes.
Then they both heard opening "doors" from "hidden" Humdinger’s base, and they saw Helga standing inside.
"Come in, I'll make you both something to drink or eat. It's bad to cry when it's cold out there." Helga said in "mother tone."
"And we need to talk, Ryder."
