Soobin was hiding.

Simple as that.

No explanation needed.

Except maybe... why?

Why is he hiding, and thereby risking an excruciating back ache through diving headfirst underneath his bed, staring at the wooden frame?

Well... the answer is simple.

The phone was ringing.

Okay, big deal, still doesn't explain anything.

Well, unless Soobin had a fear of sudden noises, which he doesn't, there shouldn't be any purpose to hide.

However, he did have a credible reason to.

This ringtone was an infamous one, a shrill that sends bone-chilling shivers down anyone's spine.

If you hear this ringtone coming from your phone, you're pretty much doomed.

Literally.

Because it came from none other than Death-Cast, a company invented roughly two years ago that can predictably estimate the date of your death.

Soobin was breathing heavily underneath his bed, sweat trickling down his forehead.

This... this can't be real right?

Just a moment earlier, Soobin had his eyes glued to the TV screen, focusing on the video game as his hands busily worked the console, cursing that he was once again slaughtered by zombies.

Out of frustration, he ripped his headset off, and was about to complain to himself how he needs to improve in Minecraft Survival Mode, when the telephone started ringing.

Of course Soobin knew who it was from that moment on.

Everyone in Seoul has heard that specific ringtone at least once, whether during school assemblies, business meetings, on TV; pretty much everywhere on social media and its educational videos or threads.

Or even worse, witnessed someone else receive it.

The second that Soobin heard the phone ring on top of the small table outside of his room, he jumped out of his lounge sofa and dove underneath his bed.

He knew it was pathetic of him, avoiding to answer the call, because the company was painfully well known for being utmost accurate with who dies when, and it's not like the phone is gonna stop blaring outside any time soon.

So, Soobin mustered up all the courage he had inside of him (the amount of bravery he has can fit in his pinkie finger; but to be fair, Soobin has long fingers), crawled out from underneath his bed, and walked with wobbling legs towards the hallway.

Taking a sharp inhale and exhale, he lifted the phone off its receiver with shaky hands.

"H-Hello?" Soobin stammered.

"Good evening, this is Death Cast. Am I speaking with Choi San?" a female voice replied.

Choi San.

Soobin felt the tension in his muscles slowly disappearing, and hope began to brim his heart.

Choi San... maybe this is a false alarm. I might not die!
