Dropping Maria off at her home was the easiest task of the night. Soundwave had always found the femme to be rather tolerable compared to Navia. She was much calmer in her actions even if her mind did not always appear to be that way.
"Thank you," Soundwave had set her down a block from her street for precautions. "I'm sorry." She said after a minute and stared up at him. I just wanted to be a part of their fun. I didn't want to be forgotten again.Soundwave nodded softly, not to move Lola too much who had fallen asleep on his shoulder pad. He wasn't exactly great with human conversation or Cybertronian conversations. For hundreds of Earth years his job was relaying information to Megatron. Cybertron was the last time of true conversation among Decepticons, or any Cybertronian.
"You are forgiven." Relief filled her mind and a wave of calamity fell over the both of them. "Go home, Maria. We will see you tomorrow."
Maria waved before turning to walk down the street. The moon had already taken over the sky, so Soundwave had to pay attention to the shadows to make sure she made it safely inside the house. After he was sure she did, the security officer turned to leave."Are you awake?" He heard her mind begin to work and process the moment. He didn't ask so loudly to disturb her if he was wrong.
"Where's Maria?" Lola groggily sat up slightly before resorting to leaning on the side of his helm. Soundwave walked carefully over the logs and opened the base door.
"She went home." Soundwave couldn't hear Starscream or Shockwave, but he would worry later. In the back of his processor he worried, but there were other things he had to do before he could process the day.
He pressed the keypad to open his windowless room, and set Lola down gently on the desk. Soundwave turned and handed the miniature plate of food to her.
"I'm not hungry." Lola murmured and pushed the plate away. He could hear the screams and internally sighed. Soundwave sat down on his chair and turned the monitors off that had been left in "sleep mode". "Why can't I be like her?" Her voice cracked at the end of her statement.
"I want to go home to eat! I want to eat! I want to be Maria. I don't want to be me," Lola faced his faceplate, her cheeks flushed. "Why can't I eat?!" Soundwave could hardly understand her words through the sniffles.
Soundwave didn't have words. Instead, using two digits he mimicked what humans called 'hugging' by wrapping his servos around her midsection.
"I am sorry, Lola." Soundwave was sorry. Very, very sorry. He shouldn't have been there. Even by trying to atone for what he did, he made it worse. Soundwave thought of his days on Cybertron.
Those days it was him and his minicons. Soundwave didn't like to think about the minicons. Starscream claimed that he tried to find them. They had gotten to them before Soundwave was awakened out of stasis.
"I want to be normal! Why can't I be normal!?" Soundwave used one of his digits to mimic how a human would rub her back as he had seen from the human television shows.
Soundwave wished he could go back. There were many things the Decepticon former third in command would redo. But to see the gray and red minicon dead and not have been able to do anything was one of those. Poisoning Lola's mind was the other.
He didn't know, he didn't know. Soundwave had broken his own rule. He went straight in without thinking. He broke something that wasn't his to break.
"It will be okay." She will never be "normal". Soundwave didn't prepare for a future without her as Starscream did. Soundwave doubted Lola could live on her own. That was what hurt him the most. "I promise. You will be okay. I will make sure of it."
