Stealing Chemicals for Fun

Stealing chemicals was Lola's forte in life. She supposed Mrs Cranes had more students to worry about like the ones who had decided to heat the glass on the hot plate and get the glass stuck on accident. Per usual, Lola was paired with Maria.

She didn't stop Lola from shoving small particles of solid calcium carbonate in the pockets of the jean shorts. Having an oversized hockey jersey also helped conceal her hand movements as she stuffed the zinc in her pockets as well.

Maria was the one doing the calculations. She measured the sulfuric acid and put it in test tubes all while Lola was sketching ideas down at the back of her tanned lab notebook.

Energon exists naturally on Earth, that is established through mines. Lola had never actually seen raw Energon in the form of crystals, but only the processed version as a liquid. So her guess is that the coloration could be slightly off. It appears to be a compound or at least functions as one. It could be a mineral, Lola knew that crystals were usually bonds between atoms. She could try and replicate the creation of crystals among elements that usually weren't used to try and create a "Earth-Energon". She needed to form something with a magnetic signature or create a disturbance among technology.

"Mrs Cranes?" Lola called the shorter woman to her and Maria's lab station. Maria looked up from watching the sulfuric acid decompose to give Lola a questioning glance. Lola however was still writing down base ideas in her lab notebook.

"Is something wrong?" Mrs Cranes peeked at the acid dissolving before giving a satisfied nod to Maria. Maria returned her nod with a smile.

"No, I was just wondering how are crystals formed?" Lola knew the basics. They needed to have pressure or some factor to allow them to begin formation into some sort of 3D structure. But Energon was such an unknown substance. Her best bet is to try and do multiple tests and isolate one element from the compound. When she figures out what each element of the compound is she can match it with an Earth element of similar properties. Then, boom! Earth-Energon.

"Well, there needs to be multiple factors such as the correct nucleation site to begin at. They grow from an outwards standpoint from chemical bonds." Mrs Cranes was about to continue before someone dropped another test tube. "I'll be right back," She began to shoo the kids away from the broken test tube and left Lola back to her paper.

So it is a compound for as far as she knows. If she can work on identifying each element (or relate the element from Cybertron to one on Earth) her, Navia, and Maria can work on forming a Energon crystal of her own.

Lola carefully placed the bottle of sulfuric acid on the table and pulled out the small capsule she used to keep certain materials that weren't allowed to leave the lab. Such as sulfuric acid.

"What are you doing?" Lola nearly jumped at Maria's voice and abruptly stopped pouring the acid in the capsule. She quickly shut it and stuffed it in her front pocket and glanced innocently at Maria.

"I was looking at the bottle." Lola hated lying and didn't even know why she was. If Maria was on the same page they could use their combined knowledge to find the Energon replica faster.

But Lola knew if she did then Maria would take over her idea. Maria was smarter than Lola. Lola wouldn't get the credit for figuring out all that she had so far. And she wanted to be the one to figure it out herself. There weren't many things she had that were just Lola's. And she wanted this.

So Lola would be selfish.

"Well, I finished measuring so we can either finish the lab report or stall it until later." Maria was already heading back into the classroom before Lola got the chance to process the question.

Sometimes Lola felt like she was on a different frequency. Her mind moved so fast, but her body was so slow. She didn't register what was happening around her until it was too late to respond.

"You finished the data table, right?" Lola asked sheepishly and pulled up a chair to sit at her desk with her. Sure enough in legible handwriting were the numbers Lola had failed to write during the lab.

"Yup, feel free to copy." Lola did so, hastily scribbling down the numbers and letters she needed to finish up the data section of the lab. They were one of the few groups back from the lab that weren't distracted by the debacle.
