RUHANIKA'S POV
I slip on the blazer, feeling its weight settle over my shoulders like a new skin. I stare at my reflection—trying to see the "professional" me, but all I feel is this knot of nerves lodged firmly in my stomach. My hands smooth over the fabric, and I whisper, "Come on, Ruhanika, you've faced way scarier things than this."
But still, the questions creep in. What if they think I'm not ready? What if I mess up? I take a deep breath, grounding myself. This is my chance, my first step, and even though my heart's racing, there's a tiny flicker of excitement beneath it all.
"Rooh, you forgot the most important thing," I mumble to myself, reaching for the vermilion box and my nuptial chain on the dressing table. The delicate chain slips through my fingers, its weight far heavier than it looks.
"Rooh, you're married now," I remind myself softly, feeling a pang of something between acceptance and longing. It's strange, how these small symbols change everything, how they shift the weight of who I am.
My fingers trace the chain, and a part of me sighs, *How simple it would be if I weren't married—if I were still just Ruhanika Goyal, independent, unburdened, fierce.*
That Ruhanika didn't answer to anyone, didn't carry expectations beyond her own dreams. But now, that version of me feels like a distant memory, a life left behind somewhere. I love them, my new family, and I know they mean well, but... I can't help but feel a small ache for what I didn't get to be.
I close my eyes, letting the feeling wash over me—a blend of acceptance, a hint of resentment, and a wish I can't say out loud. A deep breath, and I clasp the chain around my neck, settling into the reality that is mine now.
"Alright, Rooh. Let's do this," I whisper, half to myself and half to the girl I used to be.
Just as I was finally building myself up, telling myself I could handle today, he walks into view. And, wow... that's my husband. The realization hits me all over again, like a wave I keep trying to brace against but can't. He's looking so damn good in his office outfit, like he just stepped out of some dream. The way he holds himself, so calm and put-together—he radiates this quiet power, this confidence that's just... natural.
