As Zariel bent to pick up Lyra, Elowen, Sylas, Kaelan, and Garrick appeared. Elowen smirked, "Wow, what a fight! Zariel, you have power. Why not join us? I'm not like that fool Thalor."
In his mind, Zariel was panicking. "I don't have enough shadow mana left. What should I do? Think, think..."
"Easy, Zariel," Sylas said with a creepy expression. "We won't kill you. Just join us. The divine god of Cancer will give you power."
"If you join us, the divine god of Cancer will acknowledge you," Garrick added, interrupting. "He never hates you, even if you have no talent."
Garrick and Kaelan, best friends with no natural talent, were desperate for power. Zariel listened to their words, then laughed. "Ha... Hahaha! Disgusting! Why should I abandon my humanity to serve a disgusting god?"
Elowen's face contorted with anger. "Velgrim, you've crossed the line. If that's what you want, then die." He began using dark mana to curse Zariel, intending to kill him slowly. But before he could finish the spell, Zariel called out, "How long do you want to watch? Help me already!"
A cute girl suddenly appeared and used fire magic to burn Elowen to death. The others recognized her. "You are Catherine Nightshade, the headmaster's granddaughter," Sylas said in a terrified voice.
Without a word, Catherine burned Sylas and Garrick to ashes. "Now you're the last one. Goodbye," she said to Kaelan.
Zariel stopped her. "Don't kill him."
"Why not? He almost killed you," Catherine replied.
"Go, run," Zariel told Kaelan, who quickly fled.
"Why did you let him go?" Catherine asked.
Zariel used shadow whispering with Kaelan, "If you want to catch a big fish, you need big bait."
Catherine nodded, "Okay," and then she fell asleep.
Zariel thought back to when he first met Catherine. While training in the forest, he found her sleeping. She helped him solve the problem of combining his aura and magic. They frequently met because she always slept in the forest where he trained. Even at the academy, she was always sleeping. Zariel never knew she was the headmaster's granddaughter. Her talent was incredible; she was already at the 4th mana circle, a feat even Zariel in his past life couldn't achieve so quickly.
After regaining his stamina, Zariel stood up and followed the presence of the divine power of Cancer. It led him to the core of the barrier. He destroyed it, causing the barrier to slowly disappear. The instructors took action immediately. The only survivors of the incident were Zariel, Lyra, and Catherine. Almost half of the students had died. The headmaster handled the aftermath, explaining the situation to the families of the deceased students, and the Drakewood family came under investigation.
Months passed, and the headmaster declared that the academy would be suspended for one year. The students returned to their families, including Zariel and Lyra.
