After their classes, Peta stood with her arms crossed, shifting her weight from one foot to the other, a rare spark of excitement in her usually serious demeanor. "Guys, go get ready. We're heading out."

Eztli raised an eyebrow, her voice tinged with a hint of reluctance. "Are you sure about this? You're not exactly the type of person who likes to have fun."

Peta, usually so composed and level-headed, let a flicker of warmth shine through her stern exterior. "Yeah, come on. Besides, I'm offering you guys a chance to join me. It's not every day I make an offer like this."

Eztli couldn't help but smile. "I didn't know you had this side to you. Okay, we're in. We'll make it fun."

Her friends, some skeptical and others intrigued, exchanged glances before shrugging and heading off to prepare for the outing. They were all accustomed to Peta's unpredictable nature, especially when it came to fun, and while her idea of fun was usually a bit unconventional, the group was intrigued enough to follow along. The energy was a mix of excitement and cautious curiosity as they readied themselves for whatever Peta had planned.

Back at Eztli's house, she hurriedly packed her belongings, exchanging warm goodbyes with her mother, who cautioned her to be careful. Eztli reassured her mother with a smile, "I will, Mom," before joining her friends who were waiting outside.

As she stepped outside to join her friends, the evening air had a cool crispness, and the horizon was beginning to darken. The drive towards Peta's grandparents' rancho was filled with quiet anticipation. The streets seemed quieter than usual, and the sky took on a deep indigo hue as the day slipped away.

Her grandparents' house was a quaint, two-story building that had seen better days. It stood out from the modern architecture that surrounded it, a relic of a bygone era that had withstood the test of time. As they approached the property, the headlights of the car cast eerie shadows across the overgrown lawn, revealing a rickety gate that squealed in protest as it swung open.
