"Um... and who are you?"
With a smirk, Akshit stepped closer, letting his voice carry over the phone. "Me?" he drawled, dragging out the word with an air of mystery. "Main Akshit hoon...'woh'' jo uske dil ke sab secrets jaanta hai. (I'm Akshit...the one who knows all her heart's secrets.)"
Kiara fell silent on the other end for a moment, clearly processing his words. "Ah, toh matlab," she replied, catching on to his playful tone, "you're the one responsible for turning my innocent sister into... well, whatever she is right now?"
Akshit chuckled, exchanging a quick look with me. "Guilty as charged," he replied smoothly. "But don't worry, Kiara. I'll keep her safe... and maybe get into a little trouble with her too."
I could practically hear Kiara rolling her eyes over the phone, but there was a hint of amusement in her voice as she replied, "Well, Akshit, I hope you know what you're getting yourself into. Meri behen thodi complicated hai. (My sister is a bit complicated.)"
"Complicated? I prefer to think of her as... beautifully chaotic," Akshit countered, shooting me a wink.
I could sense Kiara's mock disapproval through the phone, even though I knew better. She was testing him, trying to figure out if he was really as confident as he sounded. It was classic Kiara.
"Oh, Tiara," she sighed dramatically, "I thought you'd have better taste than this. I was just hoping, you know, for someone a little more... mature?" Her voice held that teasing edge, but I could tell she was smiling.
Akshit wasn't fazed. He only leaned closer, his expression cocky. "Well, in that case, I guess I'll have to prove myself worthy of your elder sister," he quipped, glancing at me with a wink. I bit back a laugh, knowing exactly what he was doing.
Kiara gave a small huff of mock disappointment. "Hmph. We'll see. I'll judge for myself if you're worth my sister." Her tone shifted then, just a tad more serious, but with that playful undercurrent. "Consider this a fair warning, Akshit."
Before Akshit could respond, I took the chance to jump in. "Alright, Kia," I said, trying to keep the amusement out of my voice, "I'll see you soon, okay? Let's not scare him off before he's even passed the first test."
There was a slight pause on her end before she responded. "Fine, fine. I'll let you two be-for now. But, Akshit, next time, be ready." "Looking forward to it," Akshit replied smoothly, that confidence unwavering.
"Bye, Kia!" I said quickly, before she could toss in any last warnings. "Bye, Tiara," she replied, clearly amused. When the call ended, I glanced at Akshit, shaking my head with a smirk. "You do realize you're in for it now, right? And she is scary especially when I am the topic."
