"Riley, come on. Come to the party with me."
"No, Maya. I don't do parties remember? Plus, what am I supposed to do there?"
"I don't know, Riles. It's a party. Anything can happen."
"Still. I don't do parties."
"Well, you should. And I heard Lucas is going to be there so..."
"Lucas is always there." I say in more of a whisper because he was right across from us talking to his friend, Zay.
"You should start a conversation with him, sometime. You know, actually talk to him about something other than biology homework since you're both so hung up on each other."
"No. And besides, only I'm hung up on him. He's barely even looked at me."
"Oh, come on. I've heard rumours and I've personally experienced him pining over you."
"You're making that up. And can you be quiet? He's like, right there." I pull her closer to me and whisper.
"Oh whatever, he's oblivious. Will you at least think about it?"
"Maya, no." I said, as the bell rung and started walking towards our class.
"Please? You're parents aren't even home and Auggie is having a sleepover so he doesn't even want you home."
"Fine, I'll think about it."

"Did you hear that?" Zay pretty much yells in my ear.
"Huh, what?"
"What Riley and Maya were talking about..." He looked at me, expecting me to know what he's talking about.
"No... Stop eavesdropping, Zay." I scolded.
"Whatever, dude. They were talking about the party. Riley might go. This is your chance, Friar." He drummed excitedly on my back.
"What the hell are you talking about, Isaiah?"
"Oh, don't play with me, man. Everyone knows about your obsession to the cute little sugar cube in there." He teased.
"Leave me alone." I laughed and we made our way into class.
«3:30 p.m.»
Lucas: "did you get the homework sorry I couldn't copy it on the board (the laughing crying emoji)"
Riley: "yea, give me a sec I'm on the subway so I'll take a pic when I get home (kiss face emoji)"
Riley: "shit, sorry ignore that (monkey covering eyes emoji)"
Lucas: "haha, don't worry about it (wink emoji)"

"Maya, I did something! Help!"
"Riley, what did we say about interrupting my subway nap?" She said with her eyes still closed.
"I know. We don't. But this is an emergency." She sighed and turned to me.
"What happened?"
"I sent Lucas the kiss emoji by accident and he sent me a wink emoji." I showed her my phone and she examined our texts.
"Huckleberry's flirting," She starts slapping me, "Riley, this is great."
"Maya, this is not great. I'm panicking. I'm in Rileytown."
