As we stepped into the club, the world seemed to shift; the lights dimmed, pulsing to the rhythm of the bass, while eyes from every corner turned to us. For once, I felt genuinely happy, feeling the surge of the music, the thrill of blending into the freedom of strangers' gazes. Alexa leaned close to me, her voice raised over the music. "Oh, I forgot to mention," she grinned, "this is one of Alexio's clubs." The reminder of his wealth, of how deeply his influence seeped into this city, only made the night feel more surreal.
We moved to the bar, and Alexa called over the waiter with ease, flashing him a playful smile. "The usual, Ivan," she said, giving him a wink. His gaze shifted to me, and I saw curiosity in his eyes. "And for you, Black Beauty?" he asked, a sly grin on his face.
"She'll be having the same," Alexa quickly cut in, smirking as she nudged me. I felt a blush rise to my cheeks, but the energy around us made me laugh along, my heart lighter than it had been in ages.
But then, I felt it—a pair of eyes watching me intensely from across the room. Glancing over, I caught sight of a man seated in the corner, his gaze steady and unmistakably directed at me. His focus sent a shiver down my spine, an unsettling feeling settling in my stomach. I leaned toward Alexa, who noticed immediately, giving me a knowing smile.
"You're hot, what do you expect?" she laughed, and her words brought an unexpected smile to my face. Maybe tonight, even in a place that technically belonged to Alexio, I could just be... me.
I lost count of how many glasses of tequila I'd downed, each one going down smoother than the last. Alexa and I were out on the dance floor, lost in the music, my hips swaying to the rhythm as laughter bubbled out of me. I threw my head back, shouting to Alexa over the booming bass, "I'm flying!" She laughed, tossing me a carefree grin before a man caught her eye, pulling her into his arms as they started dancing together. She shot me a wink. "Loosen up!" she called.
"Hi," a voice suddenly spoke beside me. I turned, and there he was—the man who'd been watching me all night. He was about my height in these heels, average-looking but with striking green eyes and messy dirty blonde hair, his frame muscular but nowhere near Alexio's. My mind wandered to Alexio involuntarily. The thought hit me as crazy, maybe just a side effect of the alcohol. Why was I scaling him to Alexio?
"I'm Gi—" he started, but I didn't bother hearing his name, brushing him off as I returned to the beat, letting the music drown everything out. Then, I felt it—his hands, gripping my waist too tightly, sliding down to my hips. "Let me go!" I shouted, trying to twist free as his hands roamed lower, pressing himself against me. Panic flashed through me, but Alexa was nowhere to be seen.
Tears pricked my eyes as his grip tightened, his laughter sending a chill through me. Suddenly, a deafening bang echoed through the club, cutting through the music, and just like that, the man slumped, lifeless, to the floor. The once-vibrant club fell silent as everyone turned to stare, frozen in shock.
