As the first rays of the sun began to penetrate the darkness of the room through the curtains, I felt Kyungsoo move next to me and slowly wrap his arm around my torso, protecting me from the cold. I turned my head just enough to feel his breath on my skin, and suddenly I was filled with bliss. There was just something so beautiful about waking up next to him-like the outside world that was uncaring about the people inside could do a time out for a little while as we remained cocooned in our world.
"Good morning," I said with a smile and pushed a strand of hair falling on his forehead back.
His dark orbs met mine with a happy gaze and he slowly woke up grinning. "Morning, love," he said his voice still bedroomy. He didn't say anything else but held me more closely and buried his face at the junction of my neck as if no day could commence without this clinging for a few minutes.
I chuckled lightly, doodling designs on his back. "But you know we can't possibly stay in bed secluded for long. Jinnah's most probably I bombarding us with messages already."
Kyungsoo gave me an exaggerated sigh of annoyance and pulled me to him tighter. "Five more minutes," he said, his lips touching my shoulder. "Just for a moment, let's pretend that it's only you and me, and the rest of the world has completely disappeared."
I smiled, giving in to the warmth of his embrace. These moments-so simple, sweet, and unhurried-felt like precious treasures I never wanted to lose.
---
Even if we were out of ideas, we still let the minutes pass as we busied ourselves in the apartment preparing a morning meal. Kyungsoo was at the griddle cooking pancakes, and some unnecessary feeling roamed in my chest at the way oh so casually he did it. He had rolled his sleeves up, and the air around him was filled with the enticing aroma of vanilla.
I sagged against the worktop with a satisfied grin on my face, sizing him up. "I didn't expect you to be this good at it," I said with mock annoyance, picking a small piece of fruit from the plate that he had kept aside.
He cast a swift glance at me and this time, his eyes were mischievous. "There's quite a lot you don't know about me," he replied in a cheeky manner. Then after a slight pause, he continued, "But very well. There is a lifetime before us to learn the rest."
I felt a little turn in my heart at the earnestness in his voice, as if he already envisioned a future with me. I moved closer and wrapped my arms around his waist from behind. "I rather like the sound of that," I said in a low voice as I pressed my lips against the space between his shoulder blades.
Kyungsoo turned off the stove and came to me, bringing his hands at my waist. "How come I am so fortunate to have you?" he asked in a quiet voice.
I gazed up at him, light-headed and delighted. "Perhaps it is us who have been lucky."
His expression grew warmer as he came closer, his lips brushing softly against mine in a slow kiss. The charmed kiss was not one that was satisfied by just today - it was encased with promises of days and nights more filled with love and affection than understanding.
---
As evening approached, we found ourselves on the couch again. This time, Kyungsoo had lain his head in my lap while I absentmindedly played with his hair. There was some noise coming from the television, but we were not even keen on it. We were simply enjoying each other's comfortable silence.
"You know," he said thoughtfully and struck down the stillness, "I once thought happiness was something you earned. But with you, it is like I have found it already."
His response was rather puzzling and in a good way that it made my chest ache all of a sudden in a good way. "You make me happy too," I said gently after we had shared a moment together, stroking his face and then brushing my thumb over his cheek.
He closed his eyes, looking completely relaxed. "Stay with me, Kiara. No matter what happens, I don't want us to be apart. I want us to face everything - every single dream, every single obstacle, and every single quiet morning like this."
I smiled, letting the warmth of his words sink into my heart. "Always," I promised. "I will be with you Kyungsoo, in all of this, always."
He sat up a bit, cupping my face in his hands, his gaze fixated on mine. "I love you Kiara," he said earnestly, and his voice was strong and full of raw emotions. "I know things can get messy, but no matter how turbulent it gets, I want you around. Forever."
I felt tears forming at the corners of my eyes as I placed my hands over his, seeking to keep them there. "I love you too," I managed to say, knowing my feelings were genuine. "I will always be with you, whatever happens."
He smiled and for just a few seconds, the world felt suspended, leaving only the two of us in that perfect moment, oblivious to any passing time.
---
On that occasion, we stepped out as we were supposed to meet Jinah and Lay for a double date, and then everyone else from EXO nearly took over a rooftop café, which was embellished with bright string lights. The night was spent with laughter, banter, and glares of affection blazing between the opposing pairs.
Chanyeol idly placed his arm around Yisoo and let out a loud laugh that could be heard above the gentle music. Baekhyun, the ever charming man that he is, playfully fed Eun Ji a piece of dessert while grinning mischievously. Close to each other sat Chen and Soo Mi, who were seemingly engaged in a conversation while whispering and making faces at each other.
Kai and Hana are dancing beneath the lights almost lost in the slow steps of their dancing as if outside the café does not exist. Sehun held Ara and spun her around, a simple yet fun move which made her giggle as she leaned against him for support. Suho and So Ye sat entwined in each other's embrace, gazing innocently at each other, and their love was as warm as a light summer breeze.
And then there was us- Kyungsoo and I cuddled up on one of the couches with hot cocoa, stealing kisses whenever we assumed no one was looking. Jinah and Lay were dancing in another section of the room, looking absolutely blissful as they grooved to the beats.
Kyungsoo shifted a little, and I distinctly felt his hand move under the table to hold mine. "I can't help but think how lucky we were," he said in a low voice, close to awe. "It feels like a dream."
I beamed at him, gripping his hand fiercely. "The most wonderful type of luck."
He pressed his lips against my forehead and I was overwhelmed with affection, not for the man who was simply my partner but the one who was my solace. In a world as turbulent as this, that was the man who stood firm by me, my one and only love, my best friend and my desired companion for the rest of eternity.
As the hours grew darker and the twinkling of stars had begun, I had a feeling that it was only the beginning of the end. We had found something good and beautiful and priceless- a love that was worth fighting for, regardless of the obstacles and life.
