Epilogue

The soft glow of the moon poured like a bright, silver beam on the whole room. Next to Kyungsoo, the waves of isolation before him found my body at peace, the feelings yet stronger whenever he was around. This was now a nice year since the time together, but as each time he used to look at me, I could hardly believe it.

Kyungsoo, ever in mischief in those twinkling eyes, edged closer and smiled. "Do you remember how it all began?"

I laughed and rolled my eyes. "You mean when I carefully hid my identity under the Cinder guise? Oh, and you, Littlepenguin, acting as if it were just one of those normal days when you discovered who I was?"

He laughed, looking too pleased with himself. "I didn't act like it was normal. I was shocked, just... you know, my own way."

I raised an eyebrow, a smile twitching my lips. "If you find 'shocked' as 'picking up my phone to read my messages to you', then perhaps."

Kyungsoo just smiled even wider. "I find it quite incredible. It means I know you; I mean, really know you. And it definitely means that you can't say we didn't connect in any way."

I rolled my eyes. "Yes, I know. There was no need to rub it in how right you were about us."

He smirked, reaching for my hand. "But I kind of do. It's just not every day that I get to meet a prince among men."

He leaned back, smile faintly illuminated across his face. "I always believed there was something special about you, Kiara, but then discovering that you were Cinder was confirmation."

We both grew silent for a moment, wandering through the memories of that day that had cascaded with surprises and joys that decoration the heart. I remembered how barely after that had he brigaded to confront my ruthless stepmother, Mrs. Kang, standing beside me all the way through my fight to reclaim the dignity of my life while reclaiming my family business. Long it was, but Kyungsoo practically didn't set foot away from my side.

"You don't know," I murmured, leaning toward him, "I never thought I would have that strength to stand up to her. But you...you made me believe I could."

He squeezed my hand, speaking softly. "You had the strength all along; I just reminded you of it."

Looking into his face, my heart swelled with love and gratitude. "Thank you, Kyungsoo. For everything. For standing with me, believing in me, even when I couldn't."

He smiled, pulled me close until I could hear his heartbeat quite loudly. "You don't thank me. I would do it all over again in a blink, because every moment is worth it, Kiara."

I smiled, nestled into his shoulder, basking in the wave of vibrant, steady happiness washing through me. "So...do you ever think about what would've happened if I'd never dropped my phone that day?"

He chuckled. "Probably would have taken me a little longer to realize who you were."

He chuckled as he pulled me into his embrace, after a few moments of just lying down together, relaxed in each other's warmth. It was during such stillness that I was able to feel the ties more than anything else – the feeling that was above any definition and would outlast all guarantees.

His touch was soothing as he played with my hair, his fingers getting lost in them. "This... I can do it every day," He said in a soft breath. "Simply being yourself in this position."

I met his stare and in it I found the same look again, the same warmth, the same fondness, which has always been there, from the very beginning. "I don't think so. To me, it feels... it feels like... home," I told him and I was sincere.

He bent down until our lips were inches apart, sending the familiar tingle down my spine, which was that of a kiss. His hand was placed on my cheek with his thumb caressing the side of my face and as the kiss intensified. It was a slow and easy kiss, as though we had forever, no rush.

When we later recovered from that embrace, I managed to catch pure admiration written on his face and that made my heart flutter. I raised my hand reaching for him, my fingers exploring the surface of his jaw, carving every line, every feature in my memory.

"You are so gorgeous, do you know that?" I said as little breath escaped my lungs.

Kyungsoo laughed, the tips of his ears turning red. "That's usually meant for me."

I smiled and shrugged in response. "I guess, but tonight it's all about you."

He smiled, not shy anymore, and pressed me against him again. "Okay, but don't think for a second that I won't be telling you how very beautiful you are as well."

The minutes turned into hours until everything was enveloped in faint whispers and soft caresses that only provided warmth and reassurance in me. We remained awake, discussing nonsense, serious issues and everything in between.

As the night deepened, we finally drifted into a comfortable silence, tangled up in each other, just basking in the warmth we shared. Kyungsoo's hand gently rubbed my back, his touch soothing and steady, until my eyelids grew heavy.

"Goodnight, Kiara," he whispered, pressing a tender kiss to my forehead.

"Goodnight, Kyungsoo," I murmured, already feeling myself slipping into sleep, his warmth and love surrounding me like a blanket.

And as we lay there together, wrapped in each other's arms, I knew that I'd found something rare, something precious. This was happiness—simple, beautiful, and all ours.
