I jump, turn around and... Luz is running towards me very fast !! I instinctively protect my face with my hands, but she stops just before hitting me.
"Amity... I... need your... help !" she cries, out of breath.
"Uh... Yes ? I can help, yes, but what for...?"
"Listen, I think I made a big mistake... But I also know that you can fix everything !"
Whoah, that's not reassuring...
"I may have asked Boscha to face Willow and me in a basketball game... And uh... We're missing a player ! And above that, we suck, it's a disaster ! Please, Amity, help us !!"she drops to one knee and clasps her hands together, begging me to help her.
Play basketball... against Boscha ? Luz really challenged Boscha to a duel ??? The best basketball player in the school, the team captain ?
"Wait Luz... First, I need to know... Why did you do that ??? What got into you ?"
She rubs the back of her neck and looks down, embarrassed.
"I was sick of Boscha being horrible to Willow... Since you stopped hanging out with her, she's been even worse than before, and I don't want to see my friend get insulted anymore ! So I told Boscha that if we win this match, she'll have to stop harassing Willow ! It seems like a good idea before..."
Oh, Luz... How did you manage to get yourself into such a situation ? I sigh.
"Obviously, Boscha asked for something in return, right ? She would never have agreed if she had nothing to gain from it..."
"Well... Actually, I agreed to become their, let's say, slave if we lose... So I'd like to avoid that haha..."
"You're impossible" I say, trying to hold back a smile.
Luz would really do anything for her friends... To the point of making a total fiasco.
"Okay, fine, I'll help you, but-"
"Thanks Amity !!!" Luz exclaims, her eyes shining. "You're so cool, really, you're the best !!!"
"Uh... I'm not as cool as you think, haha..."
"No, really, I don't know what we would've done without you ! Come on, we have to get ready !"
She grabs my hand and pulls me behind her ; I wasn't ready and I turn scarlet - again.
Augustus and Willow wait on the field, looking like they don't really know what they're doing there. I'm a little nervous about having to talk to Willow again, and making Boscha feel even worse by fighting her, but I have to do it for Luz...
"Willow, Gus! I found our third player !!"
I can't quite say what means the look on Willow's face. She just says :
"Oh, hi, Amity. It's nice of you to help."
"Uh, yeah, hi..."
There's an awkward silence, but Luz breaks it by shouting :
"Gus, meet Amity Blight ! Well, you already know her, but these are official introductions, and you're going to have to cheer her on too ! And Amity, meet Gus, our cheerleader !!!"
Gus gives an awkward smile, waves his flags.
"Ah, cool" I say. "Nice to meet you."
"Yeah, same ! Good luck to you three."
