I've been itching for another apocalyptic story. So this is a sequel to 'Death comes for all' and 'Eight Years'. So, to understand this story, you need to read the other two.
Now, a quick warning, it's going to be dark, brutal, and no one is safe again. 😅

Max ran. He ran so fast that his legs almost couldn't keep up. His lungs were burning. He was no longer aware of the gunshots that kept ringing out behind him. The only thing he could still hear was his heart.
Max hoped that his father and sister were okay. He hoped that they had found shelter here in the cover of night and between the trees.
Protection from the Black Death.
He had grown up in the apocalypse. He knew how dangerous the world could be. After all, he had known nothing else for eighteen years of his life.
But he hadn't expected what had happened now. Nobody on the farm had expected it. The undead were becoming fewer and fewer. The people were slowly rebuilding the society that had been lost. In all this rebuilding, the Black Death emerged, an army who wanted to kill every last zombie. To rebuild England and establish a military state. By any means necessary.
His father had refused them any help, and now they had attacked the farm where Max had grown up. Max managed to escape, but he was separated from his family.
Max stumbled and landed hard on the forest floor. He rolled over on his back and took a deep breath. The brief silence was interrupted by loud footsteps and shouting. Max quickly picked himself up again. He could see the light of flashlights between the trees.
The boy ran as fast as he could, sliding down a small slope, when he was grabbed from behind and pulled into a bush.
Max tried to free himself, but the arm holding him and the hand over his mouth were stronger.
He looked around in panic. When a blonde woman knelt down in front of him, she pressed her index finger to her lips.
The woman had a calm and friendly aura. So Max calmed down a little, even though he was still being held by another person.
The cries of the black army could be heard through the forest, still searching for survival from the farm. But the cries became quieter and quieter, and suddenly, there was silence.
"They're gone..." the woman spoke calmly. "My love, let go of the boy."
As soon as the hands were released from Max, he immediately jumped up.
The person holding him was also a woman. She had a serious look, brown hair with a slight red undertone. But her most striking feature was the eye patch she was wearing.
" Stay calm. We're not going to hurt you. " The blonde spoke and stood up slowly. "What's your name?"
" Max."
" Hello, Max. I'm Beth, and this is my wife Sorscha."
