angel
The sun had barely risen, yet the weight of uncertainty pressed heavily on my chest as I sat on the edge of my bed, staring at the bathroom door where Evelyn had just exited. The appointment with the gang doctor loomed over me like a dark cloud, a constant reminder of the shocking turn my life had taken.
Evelyn had insisted on the visit after my nausea had surprised me yet again at breakfast. The morning had begun with such normalcy, but now everything felt as if it were spiraling out of control. I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself, and finally stood up, making my way downstairs, my heart racing at the thought of what I might learn.
Entering the doctor's small office, I struggled to calm the storm of emotions swirling within me. The doctor, a rugged man with kind eyes and a steady demeanor, welcomed me with a nod. "Angel," he said gently, "how are you feeling?"
"Just a bit... overwhelmed, I guess," I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper.
After a brief examination and some blood tests, the doctor returned with a somber expression that immediately put me on edge. "I'm afraid I have some news," he said, his tone serious. "You're pregnant."
The words hit me like a punch to the gut, and I felt the room spin around me. "Pregnant?" I echoed, trying to grasp the reality of it. "But... how?"
"It's not uncommon for the signs to manifest so early," he explained, his voice steadying me somewhat. "I know this is a shock, but we need to discuss your options and what this means for you."
My mind raced as I processed the information. Thoughts of Alexander flooded my mind-our fleeting moments together, the way he had cared for me. The reality of being pregnant was terrifying. "I-I can't tell anyone," I blurted out, panic rising in my chest. "You can't say anything to anyone, right? Patient confidentiality?"
"Of course," the doctor assured me, leaning forward with a reassuring expression. "This stays between us. But you should consider starting on prenatal vitamins to ensure your health and the health of the baby."
"Vitamins," I repeated, my voice numb. It felt surreal, as if I were watching my life unfold from a distance. "What am I going to do?"
As I left the office, a whirlwind of emotions threatened to overwhelm me. I had so many questions, yet the answers felt just out of reach. What would Alexander think? How would my family react? Could I even handle this?
Meanwhile, in a room on the other side of the compound, I knew Alexander was deep in discussion with the gang.
Just then, Lila walked into the room, her presence commanding yet warm. I felt an unexpected jolt of anxiety as she looked at me with a knowing expression. "Hey there, sweetheart," she said softly. "Mind if I join you for a moment?"
"Uh, sure," I replied, surprised by her sudden attention. I gestured toward the couch, but the weight of my secret felt like an anchor, holding me in place.
Lilah studied me closely, her motherly instincts kicking in. "I saw you with the doctor. You're looking a bit pale, dear."
I hesitated, the truth hanging on the tip of my tongue. "I... I found out that I'm pregnant," I finally admitted, my voice trembling.
Lilah's eyes widened slightly, but then she softened her expression, showing compassion. "I suspected as much when you were sick at breakfast," she said gently. "Angel, I want you to know that you're not alone in this."
"Thank you," I whispered, relief washing over me at finally sharing my burden. "But I don't know what to do. I'm so scared."
"I understand. This is a big change, and it's normal to feel overwhelmed. But you have support here, and I want to help you navigate this," Lilah replied, her voice steady and reassuring.
I looked down, my heart racing. "im not sure if i want to do this"
"Being a mother is one of the hardest things you'll ever do, but you'll also find strength you didn't know you had. It's okay to have doubts," Lilah said, leaning closer.
"And if, by chance, Alexander is the father," Lilah began, her tone turning more serious, "then you'll have a family here. The club will rally around you, no matter what."
My heart sank at the mention of Alexander's name. "But what if he doesn't want this?" I asked, my voice cracking under the weight of my fears.
Lilah leaned in closer, her gaze steady. "That's something we need to consider. If the child is Alexander's, it means you have even more people to support you. You won't be alone in this. But if it's not his, the club will still stand by you, just as fiercely. You're part of this family now, Angel."
I took a shaky breath, feeling the reality of her words sink in. "You really think he cares that much?" I asked, a flicker of hope igniting within me.
"He's been drawn to you since the moment you met," Lilah reassured me, her eyes softening. "I've seen the way he cares for you, how he struggles with this situation. But you need to have an honest conversation with him about it. I can't promise how he'll react, but it's important he knows. You deserve that."
"But how did you know it could be Alexander's?" I asked, curiosity mixing with my anxiety. "I haven't told anyone about... about the possibility."
Lilah gave me a knowing smile, a hint of motherly warmth in her expression. "Sweetheart, I could see it in the way you two were together, even before all of this. There's a bond forming between you, something more than just friendship. And the moment you threw up at breakfast, I could see the worry etched on his face. It was like he knew something was off."
I felt a flush rise to my cheeks at her observation. "You think he really cares that much?"
"Absolutely. But it's time to have an honest conversation with him. You both deserve to know where you stand."
Just then, the door opened, and Alexander's voice filled the room as he engaged in a meeting with the other bikers. The atmosphere shifted, and my anxiety bubbled to the surface again. I didn't want to burden him with my worries, not yet.
"Lila, I don't think I'm ready to talk to him," I admitted, biting my lip. "What if I scare him away?"
"Angel, keeping this from him will only create distance," she replied, her voice firm yet compassionate. "You both deserve honesty, especially now. You're going to need each other more than ever. And as much as this is your journey, it's his too."
I nodded, feeling the truth of her words resonate within me. I glanced toward the door where Alexander had just entered, my stomach flipping at the thought of him knowing.
"What if he doesn't want to be involved?" I asked, my voice trembling slightly.
"Then i'l slap some sens in him " Lilah reassured me, placing a comforting hand on my knee. "You're a part of this family now, and I'm not just talking about the club. You have me to support you. We'll make it work."
"Can you please keep this to yourself for now?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. "I need some time to find the courage to talk to Alexander about it.""Of course, Angel. I won't say a word until you're ready," Lila replied, her voice warm and reassuring. "Take all the time you need. Just know that whatever happens, you're not alone in this."
With her words, I felt a flicker of hope. It wouldn't be easy, but maybe I wouldn't have to face this alone. I could lean on Lilah and the support of the family around me. The fear that had gripped my heart began to loosen its hold, replaced by a sense of determination.
As Lila continued to speak, I found solace in her presence, the warmth of the moment grounding me amidst the chaos swirling in my mind. "Just take your time," Lilah advised. "And remember, you're stronger than you think."
With Lila's encouragement, I felt a glimmer of resolve. Perhaps I could navigate this journey, one step at a time. And perhaps, in sharing my truth, I would find a way to embrace the unexpected path ahead.
