A/n: What is proofreading?
"So...what's the Assassination Zone like?"
"It's...nice, I guess," (Y/n) said, folding her arms across her stomach as she laid flat on her bed, Sonic on his back beside her. "Temperature wise, at least. Until Silver had control of the assassins, it was tense. And then after that, the ghosts came back, Espio almost died..."
"Almost?" Sonic echoed, turning on his side and propping his head up on his hand. He leaned closer, a smile lifting the corners of his mouth. "What happened?"
"What, you want me to tell you like a bedtime story?" (Y/n) said wryly, turning her head towards him. His smile widened slightly and he rested his head on the pillow.
"I mean, if you're offering."
She rolled her eyes with a small smile, reaching over to gently flick his nose. "Where to even begin."

"Makes the Burning Zone sound like a piece of cake," (Y/n) mused after she'd finished telling her story, tapping her chin. She glanced at Sonic just as his cheeks reddened and he flopped onto his back, crossing his arms too tightly over his chest. "Um...you okay?"
"Oh, yeah," he said with a strained laugh. "Just, uh, thinking about everything you went through in the Assassination Zone. Sounds like a lot. I'm glad everyone's okay."
"Yeah," she said slowly. "Is there...something you're not telling me about...the Burning Zone?"
"Um, no? What would there be to tell? Me and Shadow chat sometimes, he's bossy, I don't like him, yada yada."
"Oh, you talk to Shadow?" (Y/n) said, her cheeks warming slightly as she turned onto her side. "About what?"
"About you, what else? You're pretty much the only thing we have in common." Sonic's face was turning an alarming shade of red at this point and he sat up, swinging his legs over the side of the bed. "I've been here for a while; you must be getting tired. I can--"
"You want to go back to your body?" (Y/n) asked incredulously. "Sonic, I'm fine. I'll let you know when I need to send you back." Her ears lowered slightly. "Was it something I said?"
"No!" Sonic exclaimed, standing and waving his hands frantically. "No, you've done nothing wrong. Nothing. Not you or Shadow." He groaned, slapping a hand over his face. He lowered it to his side, closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and sat back down on the bed. "You can...uh...you can tell me about the Burning Zone. If you want."
She hesitated, sitting up and fidgeting with her thumbs. "Well, uh...now that I think about it...the Assassination Zone was a lot more interesting. I mean, I had a girl's day out with Blaze and Rouge. Or, a girl's day in? Kind of weird in the middle of the apocalypse."
"Sounds fun, though," Sonic said, relaxing slightly, though his cheeks were still dusted pink. There was a loaded pause, the fur on the (a/t)'s spine raising slightly.
"Okay, out with it," she said, shoving his shoulder. "Do you just not like Shadow? You got real weird when I brought up the Burning Zone."
"It's nothing!" Sonic said defensively, raising his hands. "Shadow and I are just rivals, and we just fight over everything!"
"Everything?" (Y/n) echoed, her ears straightening. Sonic's eyes widened.
"It's not what you--"
"Sonic, you said you can talk to Shadow. How long have you been able to do that?"
"Like, talk to him? Um...since you got run through, I think."
"But...you were connected to him...when I was connected to him." Her eyes widened and she slapped a hand over her mouth. "Sonic, did you--"
