A year into their relationship, Tim decided to surprise Lucy with a weekend getaway to the mountains.
It was something they rarely had the time for—both so dedicated to their work, to the chaos and unpredictability of being cops. But this weekend, it was just the two of them. No cases, no uniforms, just Tim and Lucy.
On the second evening, as they sat on the deck of their cabin watching the sunset, Tim reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet box.
Lucy's heart skipped a beat as he turned to her, his expression uncharacteristically nervous.
"Lucy," he began, his voice rough with emotion.
"I've been through a lot in my life. I've seen the worst of people, and I never thought I'd find someone who made me want to believe in the good again. But you... you've changed me. You've made me a better man."
He opened the box, revealing a simple, elegant diamond ring. Lucy felt her breath catch in her throat as tears welled up in her eyes.
"I want to spend the rest of my life with you, Lucy. Will you marry me?"
For a moment, the world seemed to stand still. Lucy stared at the ring, at Tim's face—so full of hope, of love—and yet, somewhere deep inside, that same flicker of unease sparked again.
It was ridiculous, of course. This was what she had always wanted, wasn't it? To be with Tim, to have a future together.
"Yes," she whispered, her voice trembling. "Yes, Tim, I'll marry you."
He slipped the ring onto her finger, and they kissed, the moment perfect in every way.
But as they held each other, watching the sun dip below the horizon, Lucy couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. It was a small, nagging thought in the back of her mind, but she ignored it, letting herself get lost in the joy of the moment.
