Kenric's POV:
"Eryk?" Kenric said into the darkness, his voice echoing.
A muffled whimper came from beside him.
"Where are we? Fintan?" Kenric said into the darkness once again.
"One of the Neverseen's hideouts. Hector? Ayla?"
Scuffling noises followed, and as Kenric's night vision adjusted, he saw two hooded figures tending to Fintan.
"Hey- what about him? He's bleeding out with a throwing star to his chest."
"No. It's not worth it. He could be a spy." Fintan replied, bitterness in his voice.
"A spy? For what? For who? What are you talking about?" Kenric pressed, noticing that Eryk was getting paler and paler.
"The Black Swan of course. Or the Council. I can't trust anyone from that family." Fintan said, then chugged a bottle of youth. "Ayla, call someone to clean up the blood."
"No! Fintan, you have to do something. He's one of your own!" Kenric shouted, and he noticed that both of the cloaked figures that tended to Fintan looked a bit antsy.
"We can't risk it. It's better to let him die." Fintan said calmly, already turning away from them.
"P-please don't l-let me be alone." Eryk murmured, his breathing getting softer.
Even in the dim light, his skin was starting to turn a ghostly white. Blood and mud coated his hair, and his eyes were starting to feel less alive.
"What do you want me to do? I'll do something, anything. But please, you need to help him." Kenric begged, searching for something in Fintan's eyes.
And he found something. A little glimmer of curiousity.
"Anything?" Fintan echoed, sounding very ominous.
"Just save him. Please." Kenric begged again, afraid of what Fintan might ask. Was it even worth it now?
Yes. Yes, it was.
"Fine. I want you to accept my offer." Fintan said, a smirk on his face.
"Your offer..." He trailed off, remembering the words Fintan said that fateful day. "You want me to join the Neverseen?"
Fintan didn't reply, he only studied Kenric curiously.
He looked down at the dying Eryk in his arms, the dark red blood pooling on the floor, staining his cloak, and said yes.
"Fine. I'll join you. Now help him!"
Fintan nodded and motioned for the two nervous hooded figures to carry Eryk away.
Kenric wasn't sure if it wasn't too late, staring at the crippled and weak body.
"Welcome to the Neverseen, Councillor Kenric. We have much to discuss."
---
It was a lot. To be a part of the Neverseen. It was more complicated than anything the Council had ever done.
Especially for Kenric. Fintan didn't trust him at all, as expected, so he had constant surviellance.
"So... what's your name?" Kenric asked,
The cloaked person in the corner didn't answer.
"Okay..."
Kenric had been assigned to reviewing all the movements and ideas of the Council from the past hundred years.
