𝐓𝐡𝐞 rays of sunlight filtered through the light colored curtains, casting soft patterns around the bedroom Ashanti, Dayvon, and Alyssa slept in.
For a family trip, they all decided to go to Turks and Caicos, with the kids, Khaza, Xenisis, and Jhyzir. It was their third day there, and it was definitely peaceful and worth the expense.
Ashanti stirred in her sleep, blinking against the brightness that illuminated the comfortable bed. The familiar scent of vanilla from the air freshener mingled with the faint aroma of coffee brewing downstairs.
She stretched, and let out a contented sigh. The warmth of Dayvon's arms wrapped around her felt like a gentle hug. With a yawn, she swung her legs over the edge of the bed, her feet brushing against the cool wooden floor as she slipped out of his arms, realizing Alyssa wasn't in bed.
Glancing at the clock, she seen it was only eight in the morning, and that meant the babies had to be up, because they usually were awake around seven.
The faint sound of laughter drifted up from the kitchen, pulling her back to reality. Khaza was already awake from the sound of his giggles, likely watching TV or playing with the babies. She smiled at the thought, pushing herself up, and putting her curly hair into a messy bun.
As she shuffled toward the bathroom, the world outside her window beckoned. The trees danced gently in the breeze, their leaves whispering secrets. She paused, taking a deep breath, filling her lungs with the crisp morning air.
After splashing her face with cool water, Shanti gazed into the mirror, the reflection of a girl caught between dreams and reality staring back at her. With renewed energy, she dressed quickly, throwing on Von's hoodie, and a pair of leggings after taking a much needed shower.
Going out of the bathroom, and over to the balcony, she stared outside. She took a moment to savor the scene: the sea, a brilliant turquoise stretching to the horizon, and the promise of another sun-soaked day.
