Chloe: Ugh, I’ve gotta go to my stupid Spanish class now. Don’t wait up, just head home without me, alright?
Blue: Okay!
With a quick wave, Chloe headed off toward the main building, and Blue turned to make his way home. The walk back was quiet, giving him some time to think.
As Blue entered the house, the familiar stillness greeted him. His Father wasn’t home yet, it was a rare moment of solitude, and Blue didn’t mind.
He wandered through the house, his mind drifting to a thought he’d been having lately. Blue knew that Joyce and his Dad had been seeing each other for a while.
They seemed serious....serious enough that Blue figured it was only a matter of time before David proposed. That meant big changes were probably coming soon.
Joyce wasn’t likely to leave the house she shared with Chloe, which meant that when the time came, Blue and David would likely move in with them.
The thought stirred something in Blue. He hadn’t really processed the idea of living under the same roof as Chloe. It’d be a new kind of family, one he wasn’t sure how to feel about yet.
He thought about the space in Joyce’s house, there wasn’t a spare room, as far as he knew.
Where would he sleep? Would he have to share a room with Chloe?
That was a strange thought.
But for now, it was all just speculation. Blue shook his head, deciding not to worry about it. He’d cross that bridge when it came.
He headed upstairs to his room and powered up his computer, eager to work on the music track for Mrs Jennings. The melody he'd been working on was almost done just instrumental, no vocals.
It was a calming, slow piece, something to reflect the inner quiet he carried with him most of the time.
As the hours passed and the track began to take shape, Blue lost himself in the rhythm, letting the sound wash over him and drown out the thoughts of everything else.
Nathan, Victoria, his Dad, and whatever changes might come. For now, there was only the music to make him zone out.
Friday morning arrived, and Blue walked onto the Blackwell campus, feeling a mix of nerves and excitement. His homework track was saved and ready on a USB in his pocket, along with a few other pieces he’d been working on.
He felt good about it, confident enough that he didn’t mind the slight nervous flutter in his chest.
That would change later though.
As he walked toward the main building, he heard a faint buzzing sound. At first, he thought it might be someone playing with an old radio.
But then the sound grew louder, sharper, until he noticed something small and metallic flying toward him, a drone. Blue barely managed to move his head to the side as it zipped past, crashing into the grass with a muted thud.
He crouched down, checking to see if the drone was damaged. Its left rotor was bent, and a crack ran along the side.
???: Oh no, no, no!
A girl’s voice was heard from the side, footsteps racing toward him. A girl with glasses, her short hair tucked behind her ears, knelt down next to him, gently lifting the drone to inspect the damage.
Girl: I’m so sorry! The controls just...malfunctioned, and I didn’t mean for it to do that!
Blue: [Smiles Softly] It’s alright! No harm done, I'm just happy it didn’t hit me. Are you okay?
