Chapter 14 - The Meaning of Family
My bag was left on my bed as I placed everything I needed inside. I zipped it up and stepped back and looked at it, "Did I pack too much?"
I shrugged and shook my head, "No way. This is just one bag anyway."
I took my bag and placed it over my shoulder as I tried to put my sandals on.
A knock was heard at my door, "Naomi! We will meet you downstairs!", Hikaru spoke.
"Okay! I'll be right there!", I yelled as I got my sandals on and left my room.
I met everyone downstairs.
"I'm here!", I greeted everyone as Kaname asked as he looked at my bag, "Are you sure that's going to be enough for you to bring."
I smiled, "Don't worry, I have everything I need here," I patted my bag.
Kaname smiled and nodded, "Okay then."
"Okay, everyone pick which car you would like to roll in," Masaomi spoke as everyone walked towards the cars.
I looked to the side and noticed that Yuusuke wasn't moving. I went towards him and asked, "Are you coming along?"
"Well, actually," he scratched his head, "I decided that I would like to stay home and study a bit."
"Really?"
"Unlike you, my grades are pretty bad. I have to work harder in order to go to college."
"Oh..."
He noticed me feeling a bit bummed as he patted my head with a smile, "Don't worry about me. Go ahead and have fun with everyone. When you come back, we can start to compete against each other with who gets the best test scores."
I smiled and laughed, "Okay. Then, when we come back, you better bring it on."
"No problem. It's no big deal," he crossed his arms with a confident smile.
I placed my hands on my hips and returned his smile, "Sure..."
"Naomi! It's time to go!", Masaomi yelled.
"Right!", I yelled. "See you then, Yuusuke!"
"See ya, Naomi!", he smiled while waving as I waved back and entered Natsume's car where I sat in the passenger seat in front.
--
I sat in front as I looked at the scenery pass by my window. In my little shoulder bag, I had my camera where whenever I saw something I would take a picture for my photo album.
I was so excited that I couldn't stop smiling.
Natsume stole a glance at me and smiled at how happy I was.
Azusa and Hikaru happened to notice me as well and smiled too.
As Natsume continued to drive, we listened to music and usually chatted with each other.
Then, my favorite song was being played on the radio.
I started to dance in my seat as I started to sing along with the song without noticing that my brothers were watching me. Trying not to laugh so much.
It was like I was in my own trance.
Then, I started to pump my fist in the air that I accidentally hit my hand on the top of the car and hit myself.
That's when Hikaru, Azusa and Natsume laughed their butts off.
I blushed so hard that I placed my hands on my face, "You guys are so mean!!!!!!!! GEEZZZ!!"
Everyone kept on laughing as I looked at everyone and crossed my arms with a death glare.
Then, everyone stopped laughing and became scared trying to deny that they ever laughed.
My face softened and I smiled the same smile I revealed that time I told the truth about my mom. My smile warmed their hearts as I laughed along with them.
I laughed so hard, "You should have seen your faces!! HAHAHAHA!!!!!"
Then they all felt embarrassed as I laughed by myself and they slowly laughed along with me.
--
The first event that was happening in our destination was a great summer festival.
I wore yukata which was a traditional dress a woman would wear to festivals and other special events.
My hair was made into an up do and everyone else wore yukatas as well.
We took lots of pictures together and then, I noticed that we were attending one of Fuuto's concerts.
I figured out that Fuuto was actually performing in the festival we were attending.
So, that was when I knew that Fuuto was going to join us later at the vacation home.
The festival was so much fun. I wore the yukata for the first time and my brothers and I enjoyed each others company.
At the vacation home, we were able to have dinner together. Ever since that night where I talked to everyone about my mother, I felt more closer to everyone than ever.
After dinner, I took the opportunity to take my camera and take a picture of the sky that was filled with stars.
Since I lived in the city, I could never see the sky be filled with so many stars. So, seeing the sky was just a wonderful sight to see.
I smiled at the sight as I exhaled and turned around to go sleep for a new day ahead of me.
This one day vacation was short, but it was enough to be able to become closer to my brothers.
It was enough for me to enjoy myself, so I have no regrets.
Before we were going to go home, Masaomi said something I didn't expect. I looked at everyone as they seemed to know what was going on.
I didn't know what was going on since Masaomi said that there was simply another place he wanted to go to first.
I sat in Natsume's car wondering where we could be going.
I looked at Hikaru, Azusa, and Natsume who were quiet as the music played on the radio. I kept looking forward as I felt a bit anxious to figuring out what was going on.
--
Then, it hit me.
We walked on the ground as Masaomi stopped at a store to get flowers.
We kept walking and before I knew it, we were entering a graveyard. My heart started to beat so fast.
I could feel tears about to pour out of my eyes at any second.
I turned to the side as we all stopped and I saw my mom's name on a single grave.
"Naomi...", Masaomi gave me the flowers with a smile as I took them.
I smiled and cried as I looked at everyone as they smiled at me with a nod.
I bent down as I placed the flowers on her grave and placed my hands together with a smile as tears fell from my eyes.
"Mom....it's been a long time....I know how much you pain you must have went through. From leaving dad and I, and trying to rebuild your life....But there is one thing you should know. I never forgot about you. I have always loved you. I would never forget someone as wonderful as you. I promised to always be there for you when you felt lonely. Even if you refused, I chose to stick with you. Mom, there is no need for you to worry about me anymore. I am now with a wonderful family that will support me no matter what. I will keep moving forward for both you and myself. Thank you for everything you have done. I will always love you. Always."
