Chapter 13 - My Locked Heart
Summer vacation was here and the family and I were very excited. We got out itinerary ready to leave the country and go to a great tourist place where the family actually owns a home.
This was my first family vacation with the family so I was super excited. I have traveled before lots of times and I loved every bit of it.
I would travel with my dad due to his business trips with his job as a photographer. I would take lots of pictures and try to get souvenirs I liked so I can remember the place I stayed at.
I love to travel, so travelling with my brothers would be a great experience for me.
However, before vacation came, I had some applications I had to take care of. Since, my applications were of me and my dad only, I had to redo the applications so that it would be updated to show that I belong to the Asahina family now. So, I took my time to take care of that and weeks later...
Ukyo spoke to me before I left home for the final day of school, "After school, you can come by office. The applications you turned in were finalized and we were able to finish printing out your papers. You can come by to pick it up."
I nodded, "Sure, thank you so much!"
"You're welcome!"
That's when I realized...something I never noticed before.
I went to his office just like he said and I looked at the paper. I dropped my mouth in shock.
All this time, I knew mom left us. But...now she....
"She passed away?", "I muttered to myself as I dropped my hand and held onto the paper. "How...did she.....HOW?!"
--
I decided to stay out since I needed the air.
I was 5 years old when she left my dad and I. I was 9 when she passed away.
I never knew she did and neither did dad. He probably found out, but I'm not so sure since he was always traveling that time.
She left because she felt like my dad's job was stupid. All he did was travel and she ended up becoming jealous and fed up. I was not enough to calm her down. She pushed me away and left without a single word.
It was like I was nothing to her, that's why I forced myself to forget about her.
However, I could tell my dad still felt pain about when she left. And I know, he regrets about what happened.
At the wedding, he did admired the way I looked and said that I looked like mom.
Why? What ever happened? How did she die? And did my dad know all this time?
"Why did this have to happen?", I muttered as I sat on a bench in the park. The sun was starting to set as tears fell from my eyes, "Mom....why?"
My phone started to ring from my backpack. I opened my backpack and took my phone out. Natsume was calling me.
I exhaled, "Everyone's getting worried now." I stood up, "At some point, I have to tell them."
I answered my phone, "Hello?"
"Hey, Naomi. Where are you? Everyone at the house are saying that you haven't come home yet. Are you alright?", he replied.
I smiled, "So this is it how it feels when you have someone by your side."
I replied, "I'm okay. I'll be heading home now. I just thought I would take a breather in the park."
"Then you wouldn't mind me dropping you off?"
