The hallway stretched out, a tunnel of endless shadows pressing in from every side. We trudged forward, each step slower than the last, like wading through thick fog that clouded our senses. Ahead, the lights flickered one final time before plunging us into total darkness.
I reached up, feeling the cool frame of the night vision goggles resting on my forehead, and pulled them down over my eyes. The world shifted into a hazy green, revealing distorted shapes and shadows that seemed to writhe along the walls.
“Stay close,” I whispered to Lyn and Sera, my voice barely audible. The eerie silence seemed to consume any sound, magnifying the thudding of my own heartbeat in my ears.
Lyn's form appeared beside me, a vague outline glowing faintly in the night vision. "What do you see?" he murmured.
"Not much," I replied, scanning the shadows that seemed to pulse and stretch with each step. "But… something’s moving up ahead."
The whispers returned, faint and taunting, like voices trapped in the walls themselves. My mind grasped at fragments, words blending and twisting into a dark melody. “Leave... you can’t escape…”
A chill crawled up my spine as the whispers grew louder, intensifying until I could barely think. Sera stumbled, her breath coming in quick gasps, her hand clutching the wall as if to ground herself.
"We need to keep moving," Lyn urged, his voice tight with urgency. "They’re trying to make us crack. Let’s not give them the satisfaction."
I nodded, forcing myself to take another step forward. The darkness seemed alive, closing in tighter around us as we pressed onward, the echoes of those haunting whispers following with every step.
