We pressed on, the hallway around us narrowing, walls seeming to close in as if urging us deeper into the dark. Shadows warped and twisted, distorting the edges of my vision until I wasn’t sure what was real and what was hallucination. A faint, cold draft brushed past, carrying the scent of rust and decay, sending a chill through me.
A light flickered ahead, and as we reached it, the bulb sputtered and died, plunging us into complete darkness. My heart raced as I pulled down my night vision goggles, casting the corridor in an eerie green glow. Shadows sprang to life in the limited visibility, their outlines twisted and shifting.
"Keep close," Lyn muttered, his voice low but steady.
We moved in silence, every creak of the floor amplified in the quiet. Suddenly, a shape darted across my vision, there one moment and gone the next—a figure, distorted and translucent, slipping just beyond reach.
Sera gasped, pressing her back to the wall, her wide eyes catching mine through the green tint. "Did you see that?"
I swallowed, forcing myself to nod. "It’s just a trick. They’re trying to get in our heads."
But as we continued, the feeling of being followed grew unbearable, whispers brushing against my mind, familiar yet impossible to decipher. I clenched my fists, pushing the voices away, grounding myself in the feel of the walls, the cold metal beneath my hands.
Lyn led us forward, his steady presence our only guide in the shifting shadows. Whatever they had done to us, however real or imagined these visions were, I knew one thing—we’d keep moving. We weren’t breaking. Not yet.
