👀...idk....ur welcome:)

Branch studied his paper intensely.

The verses rhymed, the melody was catchy, and it was band-material.

So what was missing?!

He frowned and scratched the middle verse out and began rewriting.

His girlfriend popped out from under a cover beside him, eyes drooping and dark.

She had come to spend the night with him, he had insisted so she could take a break from work, but he had been working on his song lyrics nonstop since she had arrived, even now as they were in bed.

"Branch-" she croaked, blinking hard against the lamp light. "You should go to bed."

It was the only way she could, anyway.

"I'm almost finished," he muttered in response.

Poppy sat up and rubbed her eyes before turning to him and gently resting her hand on his arm.

"What's so important about this song?" she yawned.

Branch looked at her. "John Dory wants to sing it at the memorial for Trollstice. Ya know, the friendiversary of the bergens?"

Poppy nodded but wasn't really listening. Her cheek leaned against his forearm as he continued writing.

The feeling of her closed eyelashes briefly brushing against his arm, along with the feeling of her soft cheek on it, made him smile.

"I should be done within a half hour, Poppy," he told her.

"Mhm." She was almost asleep by now.

"I can go in the other room," Branch offered, "if you need the light off to sleep."

She did.

But her eyes slid right open. "No." Her arms wrapped around his torso as she closed her eyes again.

"Are you sure?" Branch was starting to feel guikty for not letting her sleep. "I totally can."

"If you did, who would be your inspiration?" Poppy asked.

"Huh?" He looked at her, confused.

One eye opened as she looked back up at him. "Your inspiration for your song. You need me to help you write it, apparently." She seemed to be trying to boast, but Branch wasn't getting it.

"I don't understand."

Poppy's finger went onto his paper. "Reread it."

Branch studied his lyrics again and his eyebrows lifted.

Everything he had written so far wasn't really stuff he had come up with afterall.

It was all just based off of Poppy.

He hadn't noticed this, but it now made sense why the words had come so easily yet so hard at the same time.

Branch had just been spilling his feelings and thoughts that he had been having around her all evening.

Poppy had been his inspiration so far.

And the fact that she had noticed made it worse.

"You read my lyrics." Branch frowned slightly at her.

"I did. I'm your girlfriend." Poppy struggled to sit up through her exhaustedness, but when she managed to, the soft kiss she planted onto his cheek made him flush, though his face remained nuetral.

"Can you finish the song now, Branch? So we can go to bed?" Her finger traced the outline of his arm, barely touching it and making him shiver.

"I can't." He sighed. "I don't know what else to say."

Poppy watched him. "You mean, you already wrote all of your feelings down?"

"No. I mean I can't write them down." His heart skipped. "They-- they don't have words."

It was hard for him to explain why but they just didn't. The crazy tingling excitement he got every tine he looked at Poppy, the warm happy feeling whenever she hugged or cuddled with him, the immense joy her smiles brought him.

There weren't words for them.

Therefore, the song couldn't be finished. Especially now that he knew it was based off of his girlfriend. This would be impossible!

Poppy grinned at him sleepily. "Indescribable. I like it. Looks like you've finished the song." And with that, she cuddled into his chest and kissed his collarbone as she pressed closer to him.

Branch was surprised. Just end it like that?

Without his mind processing, his finger whipped his pencil across the paper, creating a new chorus:

No matter the hair, the eyes, the smile. Every second all worth the while. For eternity, for the rest of all time- Oh, that beautiful indescribable girl of mine. The feelings twisted, my thoughts like sand. Will I ever be able to understand? My doll, my hope, my dream, my world My indescribable girl.

He put his paper and pencil down on this dresser beside the bed. Branch reached out and switched off the lamp light, and he could feel Poppy immediately completely relax in his arms.

Smiling bigger to himself, his arms wrapped around her as well as he kissed her hair and whispered goodnight.

His girl. Indescribable feelings.

Yup. He wouldn't have it any other way.
