|Poppy has a nightmare about Branch (They have phones in this oneshot)|

Rinngggg!!! Rinnnnggg!! RIIIIINNN--

Branch groaned, not fully awake, annoyed, as he turned onto his stomach on his bed and answered his phone, not bothering to check who was calling.

Whoever it was, he was going to kill them.

 "Branch?" a worried voice asked.

Branch lifted his eyebrows. "Poppy?" He sat up, alarmed. "Why are you calling?! Are you alright?"

"I just wanted to say hi," Poppy said simply.

Branch was skeptical. "At three in the morning?"

"Yeah." He heard her shuffle through the phone. She was hiding something.

"Okay. What's wrong?" he asked.

"Uhh..." Poppy sounded unsure. "Branch...? Do you have...nightmares? "

Branch sighed with relief. "Of course. I sometimes even have them daily. Why? Did you have one?"

"Pfftt." Poppy scoffed through the phone. "I'm Queen Poppy! I don't have time for silly little nightmares!"

"What was it about?" Branch asked, ignoring her.

 "You." Poppy immediately admitted.

Branch would have grinned and teased if it wasn't for her response. "Me?"

"Yeah." Poppy sighed. "It was terrible."

"What happened in the dream?" Branch urged.

Poppy gave a breath, as if she had meant to try to forget it instead of remember again. "Well...we had a fight over something silly-- I can't remember what. Then you left and walked through the forest to calm down. I hadn't seen you for three days before I decided to look for you.

"I had thought you hadn't come to see me for a while because you were still mad, but you weren't in your bunker. Eventually we found you hurt and injured from a fall in the forest. A snake had bitten you and no one was around to hear your cry for help. And you..."

She stopped, to Branch's relief. This dream was dark. He had dark dreams, but he never thought innocent Poppy vould.

"I was worried," Poppy added. "So I called you. Just to double check."

Branch smiled. About three years ago, Poppy would never have double-checked if she had dreamed of that. Heck, she wouldn't even had dreamed of him. He was one of the last things she had thought of, probably.

"Well, don't worry. I'm fine."

"Are you home?" she asked quietly.

"No. I'm in the forest."

"What?!! Branch, get out before--!!!"

Branch laughed. "I'm kidding! I'm at home in bed right now."

He could almost hear her scowl. "Branch, that's not funny."

He was enjoying how much she was worried over him. It was... nice. He felt extremely loved.

Branch laughed still.

"And there are no snakes in your room?" Poppy asked.

"Don't be ridiculous," Branch responded . "Of course not."

"Did you check under your bed?" she also asked.

 "I didn't check anywhere."

"Can you check?" Poppy suggested softly.

 "Poppy, I don't think --" Branch began.

 "Please, Branch?" Poppy begged.

"Oh, okay." Branch got up. He wasn't used to Poppy being the one over-the-top worried instead of him. He was finding way more fun in it than he felt he should have.

"Nope. No snakes!" Branch announced to his girlfriend over the phone, checking under his bed.

"Good." Poppy was quiet. "Can you not hang up?"

"I won't until you say goodbye, Poppy," he chuckled.

"No, I mean not at all. Like, stay on the phone for the rest of the night."

Branch frowned. "Poppy, we both need sleep."

"I know, but it's be easier for me to sleep if I heard you basically still breathing," Poppy told him. "If not, then I would have to call you multiple times tonight to check up with you. "

Branch was surprised. "Well... I guess so. But you need to promise to go to sleep yourself, alright?"

"Okay," she said in a small voice.

"Okay. Goodnight."

"'Night."

It was quiet on the phone for a bit while Branch closed his eyes and tried to sleep.I

"Branch? You still there?"

He tossed awake after a few seconds of sleep. "Huh, oh, yeah. Yep, still here. Not going anywhere."

"Okay." After a few minutes, she called again, "Branch?"

Branch was more than half asleep and just hummed in response.

"Are you okay?" Poppy asked.

"Yup." Branch managed to respond. "Go to sleep."

After a while, through his sleep, he heard Poppy's soft breaths through the call as she drifted off to sleep.

Immediately, he bolted up. Here she was worrying about him and snakes when she could possibly be in a house full of snakes right then and there!

He needed to make sure she was okay. "Poppy!!"

He heard her jolt up through the phone. "Mhm?"

Branch leaned forward and closer to the phone. "I was thinking, you may be unsafe too. Your pod is right next to that nest of snake eggs I saw a few days ago! I need you to come over and sleep here with me otherwise I swear that I'm never going to get any sleep at all."

He heard her smile through her words, "I'm coming. Cuz then it's be easier for me to check on you as well."

"Good. I'll see you here in fifteen. Okay?"

"Yes, totally." Poppy grinned and sang, "I love you."

"I love you too. And, Poppy?"

"Yes?"

"Get here safe."

"Okay." Poppy giggled. "I will. To make sure you live through the night."

They both laughed a bit through the phone .
