| This is for Broppy Week, Day 1! I am not sure if I will be able to write one for each day, but this is such a fun idea, so I'll definitely try! Thanks for inspiration @MoonGirlFan12 😘 This one is winter-themed! |

Branch and Viva gabbed excitedly as they and Poppy walked toward the Troll Pond. Every year the small pond is just frozen enough to skate over. Every year that  Branch had his colors, he had asked Poppy to go skating.

She had always said that she was too busy or maybe get could later that week, and then never mentioned it again. Branch wasn't suspicious or anything, she was busy. But he was always disappointed.

But this year, the whole of BroZone had planned it. Branch and his brothers had grown up skating every year with their grandma, laughing and drinking hot cocoa together, and all of them were excited to start the tradition again. Viva never skated every year, but the few times she did she loved it, so she was just as excited about it as the brothers were.

When Viva and Branch had come to pick Poppy up in her new skating gear, Poppy looked a bit stressed. They had both asked her what was the matter.

 "Nothing, just tired, that's all." She had given a small shrug.

But that wasn't what was bothering her. Poppy had never ice skated before. She was afraid of the ice. She didn't trust the experts that walked all over the ice, or the naive trollings that skated all over it every year as well.

Poppy had actually considered banning ice skating one year, but decided against it. She couldn't let people know about how terrified she was of it. They would just make fun of her. She was the supposedly fearless queen that could do just about anything.

Except ice skate. Darn it, why couldn't she just get over it?

Branch and Viva were talking excitedly about the old tricks they used to do on the ice. Branch was pretty experienced, skating even during his gray years (when no one was watching, of course), and Viva, being herself, just threw herself on the ice and attempted all tricks, experienced and taught or not.

They talked about their goals, their sucesses, and their fails.

All Poppy heard from behind them was their fails. The bruises and almost sprains they had gotten from small mistakes on the ice.

She gave a shiver.

Branch noticed it. "Poppy, are you cold? Do you need my jacket?"

Though she shook her head at him, not wanting him jacket-less, he still pulled it off and wrapped it around her and over her own jacket. She gave him a grateful smile.

 "Thanks, Branch."

 He frowned a bit. "Are you alright, Poppy? You have been pretty quiet since we started towards the pond. Need to talk about something?"

 "Yeah, Branch is right," Viva agreed. "You've been super quiet."

 Poppy looked at the two people she loved the most, then stared at the floor, flushing. "No, I'm good."

 "Ohhhh-kayyy." It was obvious Branch didn't believe her.

Didn't matter. As long as he didn't know how weak she felt and was.

~~~
They got there quicker than Poppy liked. John Dory, Floyd, and Clay all skated over to them, already on the pond and in their jackets and snowpants.
 "Hay, Branch!!" John Dory called.
 "Hiii, Viva!" Clay greeted.
 "Hello, guys!" Floyd sang happily.
