Charlotte's laughter echoed through the park as Michaela pushed her on the swing. "Higher, Mama! Higher!" Charlotte shouted, her face lighting up with pure joy. Michaela's heart skipped a beat at the word "Mama," but she quickly recovered, pushing the swing a little higher.
"You're flying, Charlotte!" Michaela called out, her voice filled with warmth and love.
After a while, they decided to take a break and have some snacks. They spread out a blanket on the grass and sat down, enjoying the sunny afternoon. Michaela couldn't stop smiling at the memory of Charlotte calling her "Mama." It felt so natural and right.
"Do you like the sandwiches, Charlotte?" Michaela asked, watching her closely.
Charlotte nodded enthusiastically. "They're yummy, Mama. Thank you!"
Michaela's heart melted again. She reached out and gently brushed a crumb off Charlotte's cheek. "You're welcome, sweetie."
The rest of the day was filled with fun and laughter. They played games, explored the park, and even fed the ducks at the pond. Zeke joined them later, bringing ice cream for everyone. They sat together, enjoying their treats and each other's company.
As the sun began to set, they made their way home. Charlotte was exhausted but happy. After a quick bath and a bedtime story, she was ready for bed. Michaela tucked her in, kissed her forehead, and whispered, "Goodnight, my little girl. Sweet dreams."
After tucking Charlotte in, Michaela and Zeke quietly stepped out of her room and headed to the living room. Zeke looked thoughtful, a mix of emotions playing across his face.
"She called you 'Mama' today," Zeke said softly, a hint of envy in his voice.
Michaela smiled and took his hand. "I know, Zeke. It was such a beautiful moment."
Zeke nodded, but his eyes were still clouded with uncertainty. "Do you think she'll ever call me 'Daddy'?"
Michaela squeezed his hand reassuringly. "Of course she will. It just takes time. Remember, she's been through a lot of changes. But she's already starting to see you as a father figure. Today, when you brought the ice cream, she was so happy. She loves you, Zeke. It's only a matter of time."
Zeke sighed, feeling a bit more at ease. "I hope you're right. I just want her to feel safe and loved."
Michaela smiled warmly. "She does, Zeke. You're doing an amazing job. Just be patient. She'll call you 'Daddy' soon, and when she does, it'll be because she truly feels it in her heart."
Zeke wrapped his arms around Michaela, holding her close. "Thank you, Michaela. I needed to hear that."
Michaela hugged him back, feeling the strength of their bond. "We're in this together, Zeke. We're building a family, one step at a time."
