He made it back to Hateno just before sundown. Everyone else was sitting around the fire exacting some sort of fish dish. He collapsed next to the fire. His feet had given up on him. He had walked miles that day, and it had taken a toll on his body. He was exhausted.
As soon as he sat down, the others began asking him about what he had done that day, eager to discover if he had really found Link. He proceeded to tell them of his endeavors, revealing that he had dueled Link and formed a sort of small bond of trust with the hero. Will was extremely excited about the news, though since the others didn't know enough to comprehend the weight of his actions that day, they weren't as excited. After he finished his story he brought up another thing that he remembered.
"I don't know if you guys have thought of this, but our money situation. I was thinking we should divide our money evenly. I have 12,000 right now. We could split it evenly."
"Yeah I was wondering about that. Leenie and I earned some money, but you've always had most of our rupees." Amber mentioned as if the subject had also been in her mind for a while.
"So what is 12k divided by 5?" Leenie asked aloud, hoping for someone to give an answer.
"It's...uh...shoot I dunno I forgot math." Jordan said childishly, as his brain had completely fogged up when he tried to calculate the number.
"It's...2,400." Olivia remarked almost right away. Jordan eyebrows went up in surprise as he looked over at her. "Damn, that was quick. Alrighty then. Each of you gets 2,400 rupees." He put his hand behind his back and started handing out money in even increments to everyone.
"But this also means that from now on you have to sustain your own money." he said, his time returning to a more formal tone. He figured it might be a good idea to try to create some ground rules, "I won't give you the money when you need something anymore."
"So we have to make our own money now?" Will asked with some worry in his voice. When Jordan nodded in response, he asked, "What if you and I go on hunts together?"
"Uh...we can split it 50-50, how's that sound?" Jordan suggested, "Or, each of us are entitled to the parts of the monsters we kill?" the young boy shrugged.
"Oh, yeah sure. Either one."
"What about paying for our new house? I feel like we should contribute now that we are financially independent." Olivia contributed seriously. Amber seemed to have an idea.
"What if we each contributed 20% of the daily bill? So 20 rupees per person per day?"
"Sure." Leenie offered.
"I agree." Jordan concurred, "Sweet, we got that sorted. Anyone have anything else?"
No one said anything, and it ended their discussion quite swiftly. After that, they mostly just sat around the fire until they felt like going to bed. Soon enough it was just Olivia and Jordan again. That's when Olivia had something to say, something she seemed a bit ashamed to admit.
"Um Jordan? I have a problem with my money...It's just that I don't have a way to make my own money. Purah's not going to give me anything. In fact, she keeps hinting that they need funding. So how am I going to help pay for the house? I know I was the one that suggested it, but I don't know how I can pay for that long. Or what about other things?"
"Hmm...that sure is a dilemma." he responded lightly, "Ooh, you know what if I just paid your share of the house for you?" Olivia seemed taken aback by the offer.
"Wait really? No I can't let you use you money for me-"
"No it's fine I can support you with that. It's only 20 rupees." he told her as if it wasn't a big deal.
"Are you sure?" she asked with gratitude in her voice, trying to make sure he was being genuine.
"Of course. If you buy or dye clothes or something, that's out of your wallet. But I will pay for your share of the house."
"Thank you! Thank you so much!" she said excitedly, obviously happy to get that weight off her shoulders.
"Of course. Do you need anything else?" he offered kindly.
"No, that was the only issue I had. I think I'm going to go to bed now."
And he watched her walk back into the Inn and close the door behind her. He sighed and started to get annoyed with himself. He had lied to his friends about the money. He had 13 thousand, not 12, and had decided to keep a thousand for himself. He did it because he figured he would do more, and make bigger decisions with more money. He didn't think he had a better mind for finances or anything, but he assumed that with his knowledge of the world around them, he could use more money if something came up. But still...he had lied. No matter what his reasons were, he had lied. He shook his head regretfully, and after a few more minutes next to the fire, he joined his companions in sleep.
The next two days passed quite quickly, at least, in Jordan's eyes. There was a blood moon the night Jordan had given everyone their share of money. That meant that there was a surplus of money to obtain from the reborn monsters. By the end of the two days, Jordan had earned a whopping nine thousand rupees, and Will had earned four. They were also able to pay Bolson 10,000 of the money they owed him, thanks to Will and Jordan deciding to generously weigh in.
With the roughly five and a half thousand that Jordan had left, he used it to prepare for the mission to the Great Plateau. In his free time he bought clothes and lots of cloth. The clothes were simply five pairs of trousers, and five Hylian tunics. He put the clothes into a few boxes, reserving them for the people who might be on the Great Plateau.
With the cloth, he took them to the local clothing store, which was called the Ventest Clothing Boutique, and asked the seamstress if she would kindly make him some paraglider cloth. When she agreed to do it for a small payment, Jordan went into the woods to search for branches that would be fit to help create the structure and the handles of the paraglider. He brought all of these back to the young seamstress, who he learned was named Sophie.
Apparently, it was actually a lot easier than Jordan had thought. He offered to let her use his own paraglider as a model, which she was grateful for. All in all, it cost him about 400 rupees to make 5 paragliders in a couple of days. He told Sophie that he was extremely grateful for her help. He made sure to test each one out and make sure they worked before packing them in a box. He ended up getting a few splinters from one of the wooden handles that hadn't been sanded down enough, but that was the least of his worries.
Olivia continued to learn and research about ancient tech under Purah. Purah had asked Olivia to ask Jordan if he could get them any guardian parts so that they had materials to create things out of sheikah material. Amber and Leenie had become regular fishermen for the village, and they were starting to grow as a brand around town. Will had started to work more independently as a hunter, not always asking Jordan to come with him. Things were going pretty well, for now, at least.
