Lucy’s POV:
We were on the 30 mark zone with only two downs. We had one more play to reach the 10 mark zone.
We had 5 minutes left of the game and so far the scores were 32-28 with them in the lead. That means we really needed a touchdown to win this game.
Jackson was Quarterback for this game and I was a running back which meant the quarterback had to throw me the ball and I had to run to the 10 mark zone without getting tackled. If I got tackled then that would be another down. We were in our positions and when Jackson looked for me and I nodded indicating I was ready, I saw from the corner of my eye a player getting ready for me. But I didn’t care I was going to do my best this was our last play and I couldn’t mess this up.
Jackson threw the ball towards me and I jumped ready to catch it but before I could even touch the ball I was hit in the neck and I immediately went stiff and fell to the floor like a doll.
I screamed and rolled to the side at the pain. I through my helmet off and I held my neck and relaxed a bit when I realised it wasn’t that badly hurt. My team mates and coach were by my side instantly and the medics came to take a look. The kept me lying down on my back and I had to close my eyes to relax but I could hear Jacksons voice “That bastard! I’m going to kill him!”
Then I heard coaches voice “No you’re not! We are going to win this game and then you can deal with him.”
I’m guessing Jackson nodded because I couldn’t hear him.
Then I felt someone hold my hand and when I opened my eyes I saw Brodie smiling warmly at me. I smiled back slightly and then winced win I felt the medics wrapping a tight bandage around my neck.
They helped me stand up and gave me some water to drink. I slid the helmet back on and that’s when everyone stared at me with wide eyes.
“What?” I asked, did I look bad?
“You are not playing” Coach said sternly
Jackson came by my side and said “Babe, you should go rest. You’re hurt.” With concern and worry clear in his eyes.
But the truth was once they wrapped my neck tightly it helped the pain and I knew I could play.
“No. I’m playing. I’m fine!”
They all frowned at me, even Stephen who I didn’t like much.
I smiled at them and we got back to our positions because the guy that hit me did a foul and we got another play because of it.
We set up a different play that Jackson told us and as soon as he got the ball he looked at me again with concern in his eyes but nevertheless he threw the ball towards me. I had to run a bit towards the goal to catch the ball and as soon as I felt it in my hands. I ran like I had never run before. I saw someone coming towards me and I thought this was it; I had to use anything I could to get past him. He bent down a bit to tackle my body and as soon as he did I jumped in the air and flipped over him landing on my feet while he tackled the air and fell down. I heard the crowd’s cheer grow louder and I felt the adrenaline pumping through my body even more. I ran and made a touch down scoring us 6 points which made us on 34 points while the other team was on 32. That’s it we won!
I ran back to my team mates while they ran towards me as well but I ignored them and set my eyes on Jackson. He had a big grin on his face and as soon as I reached him he grabbed me and lifted me in the air while I leant down and kissed him. Our team started wolf whistling and cheering at us and I just laughed.
We won! We did it!
The coach ran to us and we all just got into a big group huddle hug thing.
“YES! FINALS HERE WE COME BABY!” the coach yelled causing us to all burst out in laughter.
Jackson put me down and I quickly hugged Brodie and Jay, then Brian and even Chace.
I ran towards the crowd and hugged my mum and Brent who were laughing at how ridiculous we looked out there and they just congratulated me.
School was over and this was our second to last game for the year. We had one more which was finals and there were going to be a lot of scouts looking out for players and offering scholarships to their Colleges so that we could join their team while getting our degrees.
Tomorrow was our graduation and we were all pretty excited. I mean who wouldn’t be. We finally finished high school! No more stupid drama.
****
It was a month after school was over and we had all graduated which we celebrated by having a huge party at my place. Our parents were out of town after our ceremony so the house was left to me and Brodie.
It was an awesome party to say goodbye to our friends who were going to different colleges.
We had won finals and Brodie, Jackson and I received scholarships to Yale where they offered us positions in their teams. We were thrilled about that but at the same time I felt bad that the other guys didn’t get scholarships. Well Chace did but that wasn’t at Yale. It was at another college but he seemed happy enough because Jay and Brian were headed there as well. As for Steven he found a job in New York that he loved and was offered a big position that he was really happy about. I guess college wasn’t his thing.
And we are where you ask? Well right now Jackson, Brodie, Krystal and I were unpacking in our new apartment that we got. It was a few streets away from our college and it was big. And when I mean big, I meant huge! It was close to being the size of a house.
Things were looking up for us all. We were enjoying life and we made sure to keep in touch with our other friends. They were only a few hours in the next town over so we could visit them on weekends. And we agreed to go to New York every holiday to see Steven and apparently his girl. I never met her but apparently Steven is in love. How cute!
I guess Lucy’s troubled life is not so troubled after all.
The End!
