I waited for the slap to hit me but after a few seconds I realised it never did. I slowly opened my eyes and saw Jackson standing there holding Alex’s hand back. The two were just staring at each other, each of them daring the other to make the first move.
I stood there shocked and kept my eyes on the two.
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?” Jackson asked in an incredibly angry voice.
“Fuck off Jackson!” Alex blurted out and pulled his hand back.
I slowly grabbed Jacksons arm and whispered “Please don’t, let’s just go.”
I saw him relax a bit but then he built it back up and pushed me behind him.
“Get out of here Alex before I make you regret ever being here.” Jackson said in a deadly tone, it made me shiver.
“How about no, I’m enjoying myself.” He turned his face towards me and winked.
Jackson stepped back and took a swing at Alex. I heard the connection between his fist and Alex’s face and I let out a light scream.
“Jackson don’t!” I yelled grabbing his arm.
He pushed me back roughly and took another swing at Alex. By then Alex had already fallen to the floor giving Jackson the advantage. Alex kicked Jackson causing him to fall off and that’s when they both just went at each other, not holding back. My chest felt tight, this was all my fault. Jackson was getting hurt because of me. I saw Chace and the rest of the guys come over and pull the two apart.
“What are you doing here?” Chace spat out at Alex.
“Crashing the party.” Alex smirked.
That kid had some nerve coming here, causing trouble and then on top of that he acts like a smart ass?
“He nearly hit Luce.” Jackson spat out.
My heart skipped a bit. He called me Luce!
Chace looked back over at me and I’m assuming he didn’t like what he saw because his face darkened and he just turned back to Alex and punched him in the jaw. I let out a yelp and covered my mouth with my hands to try and hold back a scream.
He continuously punched Alex and the rest of the guys just stood there.
“Stop!” I screamed. I went over to Chace and tried to pull him off. “Stop it!” I yelled furiously.
Jackson grabbed me and pulled me back to him. “No let me go!” I yelled. The guys just looked at me then back at Chace. “Brian, tell him to let me go!”
He shook his head and said “Sorry Luce.”
I started crying, this was all my fault, Jackson was hurt because of me and now Chace could get in huge trouble for what he is doing to Alex and on top of all of that they were being violent. I dumped Michael for that reason and I ran away from home for that reason, I didn’t come here to let that keep happening. Even if it wasn't directly at me but how many times must I witness violence or be the reason for it.
Eventually Chace stopped and he ordered a few guys to kick Alex outside. They did as they were told with no questions asked which didn’t surprise me. Jackson slowly let me go and I just moved back, tears falling down from my eyes.
Chace looked over at me, his hands covered in blood and came closer but I just yelled “Don’t touch me.”
I looked down at his bloodied hands and felt disgusted.
He stopped dead in his tracks and looked confused then he just frowned and sighed. He looked back at the guys who just stood there watching. Jackson took a step closer and said “Lucy-”
“No!” I cut him off “How could you? Both of you! How could you smash someone over something so pathetic?”
At this point I started shaking. Chace seemed to notice because his face expression grew worried.
“Luce please, let’s just go talk about this.”
“Talk about what?” I snapped "You're just as bad as them."
“He tried to hit you!” Chace yelled, rage building in his voice.
“So smashing him and beating him until you can’t tell whether it’s your blood or his on your hands is okay?”
Jackson just kept frowning but stayed quiet.
I wiped my tears away and started walking off.
“Lucy wait!” Chace grabbed my arm and I just swung around and pushed him away.
“I hate violence! I have seen and felt it enough! So stop!” I felt tears stream down my face again.
His expression went from angry to confused to regret. He slowly let go of me and looked down.
I stormed off and texted Brodie, who I just realised, missed the whole thing.
-Where are you?
-Out. Why?
-I am going home, don’t worry I’ll catch a ride.
-Alright, see you at home.
I shoved my phone in my bag and went outside. I looked around to see if I could see anyone I knew and that’s when I spotted Damian.
“Damian!” I called.
He looked up and smiled when he saw me then frowned when he saw me crying.
He jogged up to me and said “Lucy what happened?”
I couldn’t speak, I just cried in his arms.
“Shh, it’s okay” he whispered whilst holding me.
I looked up at him and opened my mouth to speak but he just put his finger against my lips and said “Need a ride home right?”
I slowly nodded and he just led me to his car.
The ride home was quiet which I was grateful for. I didn’t want to explain what was going on because I didn’t even know what to think. I thought the guys were more loving then that. I didn’t know they were violent people and over what? Something as pathetic as that?
I thanked Damian for the ride home and he just smiled and nodded “Anytime” he said.
I walked inside the house and it was quiet, I guess mum and Brent were asleep. I slowly went upstairs, and took a shower.
I got dressed into shorts and a singlet and left the window a little open so I could get some fresh air and climbed into bed. After a few minutes of replaying the events that happened tonight I just fell asleep.
