Chapter 7

“This is interesting.” Liz thought.
“Yeah. My so-called big brother.” Zenday said exaggerating on the words “big brother.”
Lester was already pissed off but kept his cool knowing well how dangerous his other side would be.
Lester chuckled and said but you’ve not won.
Liz smiled and said, “Not so fast SpongeBob! Turn around.” Twirling her index finger. To Lester’s surprise, the ball was in the net.
“But how did she? How come?” Lester questioned with his mouth wide open.
Out of nowhere, Liz walked towards Lester from behind and whispered into his ears and at the same time lifted his chin up to close his mouth saying, “I’m full of surprises SpongeBob, you better watch out.”
Lester turned to face Liz but she had already taken a few steps away. She mouthed out, “Don’t miss me too much.”
Ryan shouted, “SpongeBob is in love!”
Before Lester could retaliate, the whole squad shouted with excitement. To add more fuel to the flame, Liz intentionally blew him a kiss drawing everyone’s attention. The crowd shouted even louder.
Zenday clapped after a while drawing everyone’s attention.
“I have some wonderful news to share with you all. Liz agreed to join our football club. Wooohooo! Let’s clap for Liz.” Zenday said with excitement looking at Liz and muttering out to her “A little pay back for what you just did to my brother. Welcome to the club.”
Liz just laughed and replied saying, “I’m happy to be part of the team.”
The players came, hugged and congratulated Liz.
Lester showed off a slight smile. He was happy for Liz and the team. At the same time, he was surprised that Liz willingly had no objection.
“I wonder what he’s up to now.” Lester thought.
“Lester!” Zenday called out.
“The pool is opened. You can go train with your friends. Thanks for joining us.” Zenday said with much appreciation.
“Sure…No problem. Thanks for training me.” Lester said as he hugged his sister to take his leave.
“Now I get it…Lester is into swimming not football no wonder he didn’t know what sulia was.” Liz thought with a laughter.
#Sulia is a game in Ghana. It’s fun and scary.
Just when Lester and Ryan were about to take their leave, a familiar voice shouted. “Baby!”.
Liz turned around knowing very well who it was. With excitement, she run towards the person. Lifting her so high, twirling her around, the person asked, “Did you miss me?”
“Of course I did.” Liz responded hugging the person tightly.
“Myles. What are you doing here? How did you get in?” Liz asked still hugging Myles.
“I’m dying…your hug…it’s…too…tight.” Myles said struggling to say those words.
“Ops! Sorry!” Liz said letting go of Myles.
“My present?” Myles demanded placing a finger on his cheek.
“Of course.” Liz said as she gave him a peck.
“What the f…” Ryan said.
“Hey! What is he doing with your girl?” Ryan asked surprised.
“Who is he?” Lester asked curiously.
“Why are they so close?” Lester asked himself.
Everyone who witnessed the scene had two things going on in their mind. They all could see how Lester was jealous and asked themselves this question, “Who is Myles and what is his connection with Liz?”
“Hey! Answer me now. How did you get in.?” Liz asked holding him by the arm.
“Well…you don’t need to know everything. All I can say for now is that you will be seeing my glorious face every blessed day.” Myles said placing his hand on hers. Lester not feeling comfortable with the whole situation, left with Ryan to the pool.
“Well this is going to be interesting. Lester has found himself a new challenger. Ahh! The plot twist.” Ryan thought with a grin.
Lester noticed Ryan’s face expression and asked, “What’s with the grin?”.
“Nothing…let’s go.” Ryan replied with a chuckle.
Lester rolled his eyes at Ryan.
“Do that again and you would find yourself drowning in the pool…ops…sorry I meant pool of jealousy.” Ryan said with a laughter.
“Okay mum. Whatever.” Lester said.
Meanwhile at the park, Liz was introducing Myles to everyone.
“Guys meet the love of my heart. The inner most and outer most of my heart.” She said with a giggle.
“Hello guys.” Myles said cheerfully with a wave.
“Hi!” they all chorused.
The ladies were marvelled at his beauty except Zenday who saw him as an ordinary being.
“Myles, meet Zenday the leader of the female football team. She is amazing. She is a work of art. She is…”
“Relax Liz, you barely applaud or praise anyone but now, I’ve got to see her skills with my own two eyes.” Myles said looking at Zenday.
But Zenday was not giving him her attention at all.
“Liz, can I get your number so I can send you the schedule for the practice.” Zenday asked.
“Sure”, She said giving her number to Zenday.
Zenday and the rest of the team cleared their stuff and left leaving Liz and Myles alone on the field.
“What do we do now?” Myles asked.
“We have so many things to do and a lot of catching up to do. There’s a nearby coffee shop at the beach. Let’s go there without anyone’s knowledge. It would be fun.” Liz said as she placed her hand around his neck.
“Anything you want my queen.” Myles said as he bowed to Liz.
“Why do you wanna use the washroom?” Liz asked.
“Why?”
“Because you just bowed as though you’ve been having a running stomach for the past decade.” Liz said laughing.
“You little brat!” Myles said as he attacked Liz by tickling her. Liz was laughing out so loud that she began to cry.
“Would you ever tease me again? Huh? Huh?”
“No I won’t. Please stop. Please.” Liz begged still laughing.
Suddenly, she began to cough.
“Oh crap! Not now.” Myles said patting Liz at the back to comfort her. The cough was so severe that Myles could see the pain through her eyes. He handed her his handkerchief.
After a while, the cough subsided down. Myles removed the handkerchief from her mouth only to see red stains on the handkerchief.
“I’m okay.” Liz said sitting on the grass.
“We have to go and see Nurse Kaylee today. I’m not asking. I’m telling you.” Myles said knowing very well what she was about to say.
Liz rested for a while and later on, went to her room to get ready for the hospital.
Jodie was busy with an assignment so she didn’t really pay attention to Liz.
Liz lied to Jodie that she was going to have fun with a friend.
“Sure…have fun.” Jodie said with her eyes glued to the screen.
“Silly girl.” Liz thought as she left the room.
Myles was waiting outside the girl’s dormitory as he crossed his legs leaning against his BMW.

Liz came to meet Myles outside.
“Relax nothing is wrong…I’m fine okay.” Liz reassured him.
“Of course. C’mon. Let’s go.” Myles said as he opened the car for Liz.
“Oh! Your manners are admirable. I might just fall for you.” Liz said as she placed her hand on her chest exaggerating on the whole situation. Liz knew very well how Myles was feeling and how worried he was but she didn’t want him to know how bad her condition was.
ST. MANDEV HOSPITAL
After a long drive, they arrived at the hospital. Nurse Kaylee was patiently waiting for them at the entrance. Myles stopped in front of the hospital to drop Liz. Nurse Kaylee walked to meet up with Liz.
“I’m going to park so you can take the lead. I will follow up soon.” Myles said whiles sitting in the car.
“Sure…We will go first.” Nurse Kaylee said as she exchanged greeting with Myles and left with Liz.
AT THE PARKING LOT
Right after Myles parked, he broke down into tears.
“Why! Why! Why!” Myles shouted hitting his hand against the wheel.
“My only true friend is suffering and I cannot even do a single thing about it. Why is the world so cruel? Why can’t she live longer? She pretends to be alright but I can see right through her. The pain, the fear, the worry of never knowing when she will breathe her last breath. She is the strongest girl I’ve ever known.” Myles thought still crying as he placed his head on the stirring wheel.
“Liz, I will be strong for you and always make you smile. You will enjoy everyday to the fullest. I will make sure of it. You were always there for me and I really appreciate that. Love you Liz. You are the best gift I’ve ever received.” Myles said calming down.
Myles after a while, dried his tears. Like nothing had happened, he went inside the hospital.
When he went to Nurse Kaylee’s office, Liz had already been treated by the doctor and was waiting for Myles. Liz was distracted having a conversation with Kaylee that she didn’t notice Myles enter the room. 
“Seems you wonderful ladies are enjoying each other’s company. Why don’t I treat you guys to some lunch?” Myles offered.
“Why yes. Of course, my price charming. We both gladly accept your offer.” Liz said imitating the act of a princess.
“Oh no!... You guys will drive me crazy with these acts of yours.” Kaylee said rolling her eyes.
“My queen. The sugar in my tea. Don’t be jealous. You always come first.” Myles said exaggerating on every word. Myles stretched out his hand waiting for Kaylee to place her hand in his.
Kaylee stretched her hand, almost about to land on Myles’s hand, swerved it and playfully slapped him.
“If you don’t want to die in my boyfriend’s hands…vanish right now.” Kaylee said playfully.
“Oh no! My heart is shattered. I don’t love you anymore.” Myles said placing his hand on his chest as though Kaylee’s words pained him.
“Enough with the games. Liz has been given her medications. She has to eat right away.” Nurse Kaylee said.
“Sure. Of course. Let’s go Liz.” Myles said as she took Liz’s hand.
“Make the lunch next time okay. I have a lot to do.” Nurse Kaylee said to Myles.
“Oh no worries. Have a nice day.” Myles commented.
Liz and Myles thanked Kaylee, hugged her and left.
On their way to a nearby restaurant, Liz was worried as to how she was going to spill the beans about her condition.
“My condition is worsening every time but I can’t tell Myles anything or else he will worry too much. For now, I won’t say anything. I will keep on with the medication and see how it goes.” Liz thought whiles sitting in the car.
When they reached Larriel’s restaurant, they ordered, ate to their satisfaction and went back to campus.
Myles escorted Liz to her room. Liz hugged Myles and whispered,” I know you cried at the hospital. Next time you do that, you are on my list. Got that!”
“Fuck!... she knew all along.” Myles thought.
Myles whispered back, “Don’t worry. I am not going to cry…ever. Okay baby girl. Now go get some rest.”
Myles left and Liz watched him disappear into the darkness.
