When the next day came, I got out of bed and started to clean myself up. I shower, get dressed, and pack up my suitcase. Before I leave, I clean up the room a little bit even though housekeeping will come through shortly. My mom always taught me to clean up after myself, especially when I'm out in public.

As I look around the room to double and triple check that I have everything, I head to the door and walk out.

Thank goodness for elevators because there's no way I could carry my heavy suitcase down a flight of stairs without falling.

After I checked out of the hotel, I grabbed the small piece of paper my dad had given me when he dropped me off at the airport. It had the phone number and address of my grandparents' house. I decided to call and let them know that I'd be there shortly.

After I tried calling 3 different times with no answer, I decided to just head over there. I went to the nearest bus stop and sat on the bench, reaching for my wallet to count the change I had since I wasn't sure if they take credit cards yet.

Upon hearing the bus brakes and the shuffling of feet around me, I pick my head up and look to the bus that was coming to a stop. Everyone seemed to file into a line, and I didn't want to bother anyone with my suitcase, so I stood at the back of the line waiting patiently. When it was my turn, I paid the driver with my change and sat down to watch the map on my phone. I figured I'd get off when I am close.

The ride was only about 20 minutes or so with the few stops that were made, but when I was super close to my destination, I got off the bus and headed south..

At least, I think I'm going south.

I don't know.

I'm not good with directions.

I tried to follow the map on my phone while my luggage was rumbling behind me on the pavement.

After about 8 minutes of walking, I came upon an older house that looked a bit run down. The house next to it seemed perfectly fine. I hope nothing bad happened to my grandparents.

Maybe they just can't keep up with the housework anymore?

I shrugged my shoulders at the thought and proceeded to walk up to the front door.

I knocked and waited for a minute. When no one answered, I knocked again, but this time, I was starting to worry.

Should I call my dad and let him know what's going on? Surely he would've told them that I was coming..

I grabbed my phone and dialed his number, but he never answered.

That's weird.

I looked around the small front porch for any signs that there may be a key hidden somewhere.

"If I were a hidden key, where would I be?" I asked myself quietly. I check under the welcome mat to find nothing but the dusty concrete. I checked in the soil of the plants next to the door but still came up with nothing. Then, I remembered I saw a video of someone putting a key on the top of the door frame. I stood on my tip toes to reach, and I just barely grazed something cold. I moved my fingers along whatever it was and tried to pry it off the frame, which thankfully worked.

"Yes!" I got a little excited. I put the key in the lock and turned the handle to open the door.

"Grammy? Gramps?" I called out. I walked through the front door and sat my luggage by the hall closet. I slowly walked through the whole house, upstairs into their bedrooms and back on the first floor. There was no sign of them.

This is really weird.

"Where could they be?" I whispered.

Just then, there was a knock at the front door. My eyes widened, but I slowly walked to the front of the house. I opened the door only to be greeted by a very handsome alpha.

His hair was like mine, longer than usual for a man, but dark brown in color. However, mine was still longer. His chocolate brown eyes had little flecks of green in them. He was tall, taller than my short 5 foot stature, and lean but probably had some muscle somewhere. He looked ethereal, and he smelled heavenly.

Oh my goddess, his scent alone would have me begging to be held and kissed all over..

I widened my eyes when I realized I had been staring, almost drooling, along with having weird thoughts about this unknown alpha. I scolded myself internally but was brought out of my mind when he cleared his throat.

"Um, hello. My name is Hyunjin. I live next door." He put his hand out to shake, and I carefully grabbed his hand.

"Hi, I'm Felix."

"Felix.. Such a pretty name." He said, almost like the alpha was in a trance.

I smiled shyly and blushed, looking down.

"I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be weird.. um, do you know the elderly couple that lives here?" Hyunjin asked.

I looked up to him and nodded, "Yes, they are my grandparents. Do you know where they are by chance?"

"They didn't tell you?" The alpha's eyes went wide.

I shook my head. "No, I.. actually came from a not-so-great situation, and I didn't have time to let them know I was coming."

"Oh, I'm sorry... Well, um, they have been on vacation for about 2 weeks now, I believe. They mentioned going on a cruise but they never said when they would return."

"Oh.." I immediately felt sad. No one would be here to protect me from Taylor if he came looking for me. I must've let out sad and scared pheromones because the alpha stepped closer to me and gave me a protective hug. I purred quietly into the hug and grasped at his shirt.

"Thank you, Hyunjin." I broke the hug and looked up at him, and when our eyes locked, both our breaths hitched at the whispered word..

"Mate.."

My eyes widened, and I was in shock.

What just happened? I'm already running from a crazy ex-mate. I don't want another one!

No! This can't be. I don't care how handsome he is! I can't have a second chance mate. If I'm not good enough for my first mate, what makes me think I'll be enough for my second mate?

Please, goddess..

I mewled, and tears started to fill my eyes.

Hyunjin just stood while I pathetically whined about my new situation.

I let my back hit the wall next to me as I slid down it and ended up on the floor. Bringing my knees to my chest, I cried.

"Hey, Felix. It's okay, I won't hurt you.." Hyunjin tried soothing me, but all I could think about was how I'll never be good enough for a mate. My first mate ruined that for me.

A hand reached out and touched my arm. Sparks flew up and around my body, making my breath hitch, and my tears stop temporarily. I looked up to see a worried Hyunjin. He was kneeling next to me, running his hand up and down my exposed arm.

"You're safe here, Felix. No one can hurt you." The alpha let out his sweet dark chocolate scent and sat down next to me.

This alpha is so strange. Why is he being so sweet and caring? Aren't all alpha's ruthless and stern?

My mind was such a jumbled mess, I didn't know what to think. All I knew was that I would be alone in an unfamiliar country for an unknown amount of time with a new mate nearby.

What is going to happen to me now that I've uncovered all this new information?
