"My Ultimate Lifeform" (Shadow x Reader) ~ [Book 1]

Chapter 9: The End Of Our Beginning [Pt. 1]

(Y/N)'s POV:

Shadow had used Chaos Control to teleport Sonic and me to this place called 'Hedgehog Village' or whatever. It was a bit quiet and Sonic suggested that before I met his friends, we would eat at his favorite place, 'Meh Burger'. I mean, the place did live up to its name, the food just screams meh. It was... okay. Besides, I hadn't eaten in a while since I and Shadow left my mom at that castle.

While we were eating at 'Meh Burger', Shadow barely ate his food, or well, didn't eat at all. He kept saying 'The ultimate lifeform doesn't need to eat.' and stuff like that. But, he was acting pretty strange too. Shadow kept looking at me when I was eating and looking around, and whenever I looked at him back, he looked away.

I didn't want to mess with his motives and minded my own business. Sonic ordered a Chili Dog, and I just got some fries. I wasn't very hungry, but even the fries were just 'meh'. I don't know how Sonic kept his composure eating that chili dog, I bet it tasted worse. Sonic paid for our meal since I had no money currently, and I left all of my currency at home. 

Soon we got to this nearby house, which Sonic said: "This is our home, guys!" And introduced me to his friends. There was Knucklehead or preferably Knuckles (As he corrected Sonic), the strong, ignorant, and tough guy. Then, there was Tails, the smart, geeky fox. After him, there was Amy, the beautiful, gorgeous and talented pink, energetic hedgehog (His words, not mine!). And, the aware, vigilant and wild badger, Sticks.

Once he was done introducing them, it was time to discuss our plans. "So, what are we going to do? And where are we going to go?" I scratched my head and looked at the two hedgehogs in front of me. I can't believe I'm talking to... talking and walking hedgehogs? Am I in an dream or something? 

"You see..." Tails stuttered and continued, "The final Chaos Emerald is located in a nearby cave. But, as I heard... the only way to get out of the cave is with... love." Tails started to giggle at the mention of 'love' and I just had to roll my eyes. 

"So, what exactly does this mean?" Sonic walked over to Tails,  nudging his shoulder in a playful way. It was at this time, we all looked at each other, contemplating what Tails said. Until he broke the silence.

"The cave can easily trap people inside. It's a risk for all of us." Tails adjusted his stance and continued. "But from what I've heard, the Chaos Emerald can regenerate energy from compassion and love. I've asked some of the inhabitants of the village, and most of them say the love of 2 people can regenerate the power of the Chaos Emerald, allowing them to escape."

"Why can't we just break down the cave entrance, Tails?" Knuckles imitated fighting and ka-boom noises and flexed his muscles. I got so irritated at his struggle to be serious, so I grabbed him with my magic fingers and tossed him into the wall. We all laughed at him, and Shadow even smiled a little bit. "Hey, what was that for?" Knuckles got up and nudged my shoulder playfully. I giggled at him and rolled my eyes.

"You see... you can't actually do that. The cave has a LOT of chaos energy that might limit our escape." I walked over to Tails, crossing my arms. "Then, I presume we'll need 2 people who show the most compassion in order to charge the chaos emerald in time before Eggman arrives, and smash the exit to the cave so we can successfully have the chaos emerald to defeat him for good, right Tails?" I grinned and Tails gasped at my intelligence. Shadow rolled his eyes and smiled again. Wow, 2 times in a whole day? That's a lot of times for Shadow showing emotion!! New record!

"So.. you guys have any clue who shows the most compassion? We can't let the Egghead catch us!! IT'S THE END OF THE WOORLD!!" Sticks shouted and I giggled at her awareness. She can be... a lot to handle. 

"Calm down, Sticks. All we have to do is find 2 people who are the most in love with each other. Got any clue, guys?" No one spoke, and we all looked at each other for a moment, and I continued.  "Besides, we can't send more than 2 people cause it's too unsafe, there won't be enough Chaos Energy for all of us to get out of the cave." 

"I... have a suggestion. How about Sonic and Amy?" Tails suggested and Sonic and Amy started to blush. "We.. aren't even that close, Tails! We are just friends!" Amy screamed and they both glanced at each other, quickly looking away.

"Hm... how about... Sonic and Shadow?" Knuckles suggested and we all went into a long duration of silence. "Don't... Don't go there, Knuckles." Sonic shivered and blushed madly at the suggestion. Shadow rolled his eyes and aimed a gun at Knuckles. He took a step back and Shadow lowered the gun, and we all started to laugh.

"Okay okay... how about... Shadow and (Y/N)?" Sonic suggested and me and Shadow looked at each other for a second. "That's... not bad, Sonic. It appears the two might be close enough for us." I started to blush hard and looked away from Shadow to make sure he didn't see my expression.

"But.. how will we even generate any chaos energy? We aren't even FRIENDS!" I yelled and Shadow let out a quiet sigh. "Well.. if you guys kiss each other... we might be able to-" Sonic said in a whisper and I immediately stormed out of there. I can't do this... Why would I kiss him? Ew!!!

Shadow went after me and grabbed my hand. I looked away from him and tried to hide my embarrassment, but I could tell he was looking at me. "I know you don't want to do this. But, we have to. Please." I let out a tear and Shadow wiped it from my face, putting his hand on my cheek. I blushed a bit and hugged him. 

The moment I saw Sonic and Tails walk in and examine our intimacy, taking photos, I let go of his embrace and chased them around. "YOU BETTER DELETE THOSE PHOTOS RIGHT NOW!" Shadow giggled and it was the first time I heard him laugh. I smiled at him and chased them around. Shadow followed me and we both punched them and tossed them around. 

When we were done, a few hours later, me and Shadow had to get rest for tomorrow's research in the cave. We were going by ourselves tomorrow and I was a bit nervous, but Shadow was there for me all the way. We slept on the couch together and I pulled him into a soft, warm hug, nuzzling in his chest fur. 

Shadow noticed and pulled me in tighter. "I'm not doing this cause I want to, (Y/N). You are such a brat." Shadow rolled his eyes and wrapped his arms around my waist. "Oh, shut up." And after our little conversation, we went to sleep. 

A while after that, Tails led us to a nearby cave. "This is one of the caves that I scanned for that had the most Chaos Energy. It should be the one with the Chaos Emerald." Me and Shadow held hands, and walked in the cave together. It was dark, but we can do this. Together.
