The kids were pretty miserable that night.

They camped out in the woods, a hundred yards from the main road. Food wrappers and crushed beer cans littered the ground.

They'd taken some food and blankets from Aunty Em's, Alina was about to light a fire when Annabeth stopped her, reminding her that everything draws attention. The Furies and Medusa had provided enough excitement for one day.

They decided to sleep in shifts. Percy and Alina volunteered to take first watch.

"We're friends, y'know?" Percy broke the awkward silence that had been haunting them the whole night.

Alina stayed silent and Percy thought she'd fallen asleep before she huffed a laugh and replied, "We're not, Percy. It would never work."

"What makes you so sure?" He spoke after a few seconds.

"Everything, my dad wants you dead. And you're dad would probably try to murder me if i ever even stepped foot in a body of water."

The only sound was their voices and the light rain hitting the ground.

"You're not better than everyone else just because of you dad!" Percy snapped, failing to notice the pained look on Alina's face.

"When did I ever say i was?" she taunted.

Percy scoffed, "You are so annoying!"

"Whatever, kelp face."

"Suck it, sparky"

"Wow, are you finally learning some big boy insults?" Alina made Percy so mad, she could've sworn his face was bright red and smoke was coming out of his ears.

"Gods, you're even worse than Clarisse."

"Stop talking! Do you ever shut up?" Alina was raising her voice, making Annabeth and Grover stir in their sleep. She sighed. "Go to sleep, Percy. Talk to me when you're ready to treat me like a human being."

The night watch was awful, every noise Alina tensed up and pulled out her dagger.

Alina jumped in fear when Annabeth woke up and whispered her name.

"Gods, Annabeth. don't do that!"

Annabeth just laughed in response before speaking after a few minutes.

"Come on, Ali. Go to bed. I'll take watch."

Alina smiled, "thanks, Annie."

Something about Alina's dream that night was weird. It was in the past, almost like a flashback.
