IT TOOK A FEW MINUTES FOR THAT TO settle in. Then the other Hephaestus campers started asking questions all at once. Who were the other four demigods? How long would it take to build the boat? Why didn't everyone get to go to Greece?
"Heroes!" Chiron struck his hoof on the floor. "All the details are not clear yet, but Leo is correct. He will need your help to build the Argo II. It is perhaps the greatest project Cabin Nine has even undertaken, even greater than the bronze dragon."
"Great job people." Penelope clapped silencing everyone.
"It'll take a year at least," Nyssa guessed. "Do we have that much time?"
"You have six months at most," Chiron said. "You should sail by summer solstice, when the gods' power is strongest. Besides, we evidently cannot trust the wind gods, and the summer winds are the least powerful and easiest to navigate. You dare not sail any later, or you may be too late to stop the giants. You must avoid ground travel, using only air and sea, so this vehicle is perfect. Jason being the son of the sky god ..."
His voice trailed off, but Leo figured Chiron was thinking about his missing student, Percy Jackson, the son of Poseidon. He would've been good on this voyage, too. He looked at Jason who was staring at him. Leo's eyes widened, but soon realized it wasn't him, It was Penelope behind him. He looked at her, who was in the corner, just nodding.
Jake Mason turned to Leo. "Well, one thing's for sure. You are now senior counselor. This is the biggest honor the cabin has ever had. Anyone object?"
Nobody did. All his cabinmates smiled at him, and Leo could almost feel their cabin's curse breaking, their sense of hopelessness melting away.
"It's official, then," Jake said. "You're the man."
For once, Leo was speechless. Ever since his mom died, he'd spent his life on the run. Now he'd found a home and a family. He'd found a job to do. And as scary as it was, Leo wasn't tempted to run—not even a little.
"Well," he said at last, "if you guys elect me leader, you must be even crazier than I am. So let's build a spankin' hot war machine!"

The four were together, left alone in the bunker after all had left them alone to speak. Leo wasn't sure how they knew they needed time, but he couldn't care less. They were on the floor sitting in a circle, doing their own stuff. Penelope and Jason were bickering, as Piper chopped of her hair from the front, and Leo just stared at the masthead, thinking what if it was alive.
"Okay so, um guys?" Penelope spoke up, her legs folded up till her chest, her hair frizzy up in a bun, and her face glowing slightly. "Me and Jason need to speak to you bout somethin'."
Jason groaned, and his head flailed behind as if to smash his head on air. "Why is it always me?!"
"Shut up praetor." Penelope snapped.
"You are a legionnaire of the third cohort!" Jason whined like a little baby as Leo and Piper just stared at them oblivious of what was happening. "You could've become Praetor!"
Penelope ignored Jason as he threw his arms around and lay back on the floor, his back turned against them, holding his knees like a plushie to his chest.
"What did you guys just speak about?" Piper spoke slowly. "I did not get a shit in my brain."
"Just forget it Pipes!" Jason threw one of his arm to the top, like it was obvious, still not facing them. "Penelope, you'll start."
"Um, okay." Penelope looked uncomfortable. "So basically, the reason I am actually here was to find Jason."
"You made that pretty clear last time Penny." Piper pointed it out.
