As the fan meet wrapped up, a lively buzz filled the backstage area. Everyone exchanged excited chatter about the event, reliving memorable moments with fans and discussing the next steps in the day. Arc stood nearby, his makeup being carefully removed by a staff member, a calm presence amidst the bustling energy.
Jihye, busy collecting Arc's clothes, turned to me with a bright smile. "Lila! Aren't you from New York?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
I nodded, a surge of pride warming my chest. "Yeah, born and raised!"
Her excitement was palpable as she leaned closer, eager for my input. "Perfect! We were just talking about where to go for lunch. What do you suggest?"
This was my chance to show off my New Yorker credentials. I glanced at Arc, who was listening quietly, his attention half on the conversation, half on the team packing up. "What kind of food do you guys have in mind?" I inquired, feigning nonchalance while internally brimming with ideas.
"Anything nearby and authentic New York," she replied, glancing around at the group, who nodded in agreement.
I hesitated for a moment, recalling that Arc had another schedule in the afternoon. I wanted to suggest something quick yet delicious. "If you're in New York, you absolutely have to try the burgers from an authentic New York deli. They're fast and totally worth it."
"Burgers sound great!" Jihye exclaimed, her enthusiasm infectious. "Where's a good place?"
"There's this deli called Katz's Delicatessen, not too far from here. Their burgers are legendary—juicy, cheesy, and so greasy in the best way possible," I said, trying to convey my enthusiasm while subtly glancing at Arc to see if he was interested in the conversation. "The pastrami burger is a must-try, piled high with everything you could dream of. You won't regret it!"
Jessica perked up, her eyes wide with interest. "Oh, I'm craving exactly that kind of cheesy, greasy food right now!"
Arc's lips curled into a faint smile at Jessica's reaction, a hint of approval in his expression as he caught snippets of our conversation.
With everyone on board, we quickly packed up our things, excitement buzzing in the air. The anticipation of a delicious New York burger fueled our energy as we made our way out of the venue. I felt a sense of pride knowing I could share a slice of my hometown with them, even if it was just through a meal.
As we stepped into Katz's Delicatessen, the lively atmosphere enveloped us like a warm embrace. The small restaurant buzzed with energy, filled with the chatter of patrons and the sizzle of the grill in the kitchen. The air was thick with the mouthwatering scents of sizzling burgers, melting cheese, and freshly baked bread, creating an inviting aroma that made my stomach growl in anticipation.
The walls were adorned with nostalgic photographs and posters of New York City, telling stories of its rich history. The cozy booths and wooden tables were occupied by groups of friends and families, all enjoying their meals and sharing laughter, adding to the restaurant's vibrant charm.
Jessica's eyes widened as she perused the menu, her excitement palpable. "Oh my gosh! I want to eat the whole restaurant!" she exclaimed, her enthusiasm infectious.
Laughter erupted around the table as everyone began discussing their choices. The menu was a treasure trove of mouthwatering options, and I took my time, finally deciding on a simple cheeseburger with a side of fries. As I placed my order, I noticed everyone else was busy selecting their meals, except for Arc, who remained quiet.
"Hey, Arc," I asked, glancing at him as he leaned back in his seat. "무엇을 먹을 예정인가요? (What are you getting to eat?)"
He looked up, his expression serene. "Ice water," he replied in Korean, his tone casual. "추울수록 좋다(The colder, the better.)"
