The next day, rehearsals were in full swing. I was with Jihoon, going over concert details, when a crew member approached.
"Lila, Arc's looking for you at the stage."
I excused myself and made my way over. As I reached the ground level, just about to turn toward the stairs, I spotted Arc. Before I could call out to him, he suddenly ran toward the edge of the stage and, without hesitation, dropped onto his stomach, leaning over so he was practically hanging off the edge. Seeing this I decided to change my track and rather than going towards the stairs to get on the stage, I climbed the raised platform near the stage for the equipment and stood on it.
I raised a brow at his dramatic approach. "What happened?"
Resting his elbows on the stage, his face mere inches from mine, he said, "팀은 다음 세트 전에 준비하는 데 몇 분이 필요하므로 청중과 대화할 세그먼트를 추가하려고 생각했습니다.(The team needs a few minutes to set up before the next set, so I was thinking of adding a segment to talk to the audience.)"
I blinked. "알았어... 그건 지훈이한테 확인해 봐야 할 것 같아.(Okay... You'll need to check with Jihoon about that.)"
"그건 문제가 되지 않을 거예요 (That won't be a problem)," he said easily. "우리는 휴식 시간을 채우기 위해 항상 청중 세그먼트를 만들곤 했습니다.(We used to do audience segments all the time to fill up breaks.)"
"그럼 왜 내가 필요한가요? (So why do you need me?)" I asked, crossing my arms.
He grinned, resting his chin on his hand. "실시간 번역을 진행하기 때문에 (Because you'll be doing the live translation.)"
I exhaled, realizing he had a point. "충분합니다. 청중 마이크가 내 헤드셋에 명확하게 입력되는지 사운드 엔지니어에게 확인하겠습니다.(Fair enough. I'll check with the sound engineer to make sure the audience mic feeds into my headset clearly.)"
Satisfied with the plan, I turned to leave, but Arc's voice stopped me.
"Not so fast."
I turned back, raising a brow. "Anything else?"
"Yeah." He pushed himself up slightly, tilting his head. "나는 스페인어로 몇 부분을 말할 생각이었습니다. 청중과 더 잘 소통하기 위해서죠.(I was thinking of saying some parts in Spanish. You know, to connect with the audience better.)"
I nodded. "작동합니다. 헤드셋을 통해 말하고 싶은 내용을 말씀해 주시면 실시간으로 번역해 드리겠습니다.(That works. Just tell me what you want to say through the headset, and I'll translate in real time.)"
He shook his head. "아니요, 대사 몇 개를 미리 배우고 싶어요.(No, I want to learn some lines in advance.)"
I tilted my head, intrigued. "Alright. What do you want to say?"
Arc's expression turned thoughtful for a second before he said, "Hello, my lovely Novas. Thank you all for coming tonight."
I smiled at his effort and translated the phrase into Spanish. "Hola, mis queridas Novas. Gracias a todos por venir esta noche."
He tried to repeat after me, but his pronunciation was off. I held up a hand to stop him.
"Don't rush it. Let's break it down. 'Hello, my lovely Novas' is 'Hola, mis queridas Novas.'"
He repeated it, getting most of it right except for queridas. I corrected him, and after two tries, he finally nailed it.
"Good," I said with an approving nod. "자, 이제 다음 부분으로 넘어가겠습니다(Now, let's move on to the next part.)"
