Heeseung, Jungwon, and Miyeon trudged along the winding path, exhaustion shown across their faces as the castle was still far in the distance. They hadn't expected just how long and grueling this journey would be. The sun climb higher, casting harsh rays down on them as they continued to walk, each step becoming heavier than the last.
"I don't remember the castle feeling this far away before," Jungwon muttered, rubbing the back of his neck, which ached from the weight of their journey.
Heeseung gave a tired chuckle. "Yeah, well, that's because we've never tried walking here from Sunghoon's estate. Next time, we're finding horses or something. This is brutal."
Miyeon's brow furrowed, worry overriding her own fatigue. "I just I hope Jaeyun's okay. Jungwoo better not have done anything to him.
Jungwon gave her a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "We're almost there. We'll find Jaeyun, and we'll get him out of whatever trouble he's in."
Miyeon managed a nod, her resolve steeling. Even with the fatigue weighing down on her, she knew they had to keep going. The closer they got to the castle, the more determined she was to find Jaeyun.
As they continued their journey, the trio suddenly heard the sound of footsteps closing in around them. Heeseung and Jungwon tensed, their eyes darting toward the trees as several royal soldiers emerged, blocking their path.
"Princess Miyeon," one of the soldiers barked, "you are to come with us to the castle. Surrender now, and this doesn't have to be difficult."
Jungwon stepped forward, standing protectively in front of Miyeon. "Not a chance. We're not letting you take her anywhere."
The soldiers exchanged glances before drawing their weapons. "Then you leave us no choice."
Without warning, they lunged at the group. Heeseung and Jungwon moved swiftly, blocking the soldiers' advances and retaliating with all the strength they had left, doing everything they could to protect Miyeon.
"Run, Miyeon!" Heeseung shouted between breaths, his eyes fixed on the soldiers as they fought to hold them off.
Miyeon hesitated, her heart pounding as she watched them struggle, but she knew she had to do as they said. She turned and sprinted in the opposite direction, desperately trying to put as much distance as possible between herself and the soldiers.
But before she could get far, a strong hand grabbed her arm, yanking her back with brutal force. She gasped, struggling to break free, but the soldier held her tightly, his grip unyielding.
"Let me go!" she screamed, her voice echoing through the forest. But her cries were drowned out by the sounds of the struggle behind her.
The soldier tightened his grip on Miyeon, pulling her away from her friends with swift, unyielding force. She struggled against him, but it was useless—his strength was overwhelming, far beyond what she could hope to resist.
